The line makes me think that UNC is the play at this time.

#3I live in NC. I won't believe UNC is any good until they prove it. Their D is good, true. But their offense sucks. SUCKS.
Some years ago back in '05 NC STATE had a vaunted defense, much like UNC's this year. NCSU's D that year looked like this:
DE-Mario Williams (#1 pick, all pro, Houston Texans)
DE-Manny Lawson (impact player SF 49ers)
DT-John McCargo (5 yr vet, Bills)
DT-Tank Tyler (4 yr vet KC/Car)
LB-Stephen Tulloch (5 yr vet, Titans-starting MLB/leading tackler last two years)
LB-Oliver Hoyte (Played 3 years as LB/FB for Dallas/KC. Out of league. Probably because he's dumber than a brick. Had a class with him.)
LB-Pat Lowery-all conference player
CB-AJ Davis-(Texans)
CB-Marcus Hudson-(5 yr vet, SF/Car)
SS-Garland Heath-All conference player
FS-LeRue Rumph-All conference player
They were STACKED man.
Many thought NCSU would compete for the ACC title and a BCS bowl. Team's final record? 7-5. The wins came against Eastern Kentucky, Southern Miss, Middle Tenn St, Georgia Tech, Maryland, South Florida, and FSU. Losses to UNC, Clemson, Wake Forest, V.Tech, and Boston College. Why so mediocre?
The offense was terrible. TERRRRRRRRRRRRRIBLE. Quite possibly the worst collection of QB's in the history of D-I football. I'm not kidding. Jay Davis was the senior starter, not sure he completed a pass down field for more than 5 yards the whole season. Any big pass play was a dump to in the flats or over the middle that receiver turned into a decent gain. The back-up was Marcus Stone. He led the team to the bowl victory against S. Florida. A 14-0 win. By his senior year he had been converted to Tight End. That left Daniel Evans, a walk-on from a local high school in Raleigh. He only came to State because his dad was an All-American for NCSU back in the day, and also the team's radio color analyst. Dude couldn't have been much bigger than 6'0 175 lbs. And yet, we let him START some games. His senior year he started more often than not. THAT'S how bad these guys were.
Now I'm not saying UNC's offense will be as bad as NCSU's was that season, but they haven't looked that much better either.
Is it possible this team has improved in the off-season to be a top level team? YEAH, sure. Anything's POSSIBLE. But beating LSU? Going better than 8-5? Won't believe it till I see it.No more of that talk, or I'll put the leeches on you.Comment -

#4I am going to middle this game. I already have LSU +3. As promised by myself, in here, the line has reversed, and LSU is now a 1.5 favorite and growing. I would love to see it climb to 3. If this game lives up to it's billing, you may see a 5-3 final score.Comment -

#15Madcap your hating on UNC. Because your a duke AND nc state fan!!! UNC is gross on defense. They also have a power running game. OLD school football. Who cares that yates sucks? He is a senior and should just manage the game and not try to win it and let everyone else win it. He's like a dilfer or feidler. If you can't score you can't win. And if the defense will get you enough 3 and outs, you will eventually score.Comment -

The Pack was gross on defense in '05 too. And you know it. You also know we had a solid ground game that could pound it out with Baker/Brown/Blackman. You really think UNC's D is going to be that much better than ours in '05? I don't. And that power running game you like so much in Chapel Hill? Ranked 79th in yards per game last season. Their top two running backs didn't even crack 100 yds per game, COMBINED. And together they barely averaged more than 4.0 yards per carry. That would have been good enough to place them somewhere around number 160 nationally in YPC. They will be too inconsistent against top defenses this year just like last year. But hey, enough spit throwing. The argument has been made where it counts, we'll just have to see whose answer collects. No more of that talk, or I'll put the leeches on you.Comment -

#19NC state defense was over rated that year and everyone knows it. Ask any football betting person. Yes they lead the nation in total yards per game but were middle of the pack in points allowed in a game. Or the other way around. I forget. I hated on that defense all year and will continues to say they were over rated. AND the offense was not that bad that year. Jay Davis was a candidate for the Johnny Unitas award and he completed 60% of his passes that year. We also had andre brown and toney baker in the back field. How can you say the offense was that bad? Defense let us down that year. Those big names couldn't get it together. Because they wereOVER RATED!!

So your argument is that the defense let the team down, even though the defense gave up the fewest yards in the country, whereas the offense ranked 104th nationally in yards per game. Yeah, that makes sense.
I can say the offense was that bad because NCSU was 96th in scoring that year, and 83rd in rushing yards per game. Against D-I opponents Jay Davis threw three touchdowns. That was one more than the defense scored on interception returns. His TD to INT ratio was 1/3.5 against D-I teams.
They gave up points because opponent field position was routinely on NCSU's side of the field or close to it, either because of turnovers, or the fact that Davis couldn't make a play on 3rd and 3.
NCSU's third down conversion rate in '05 was 23%.
Know how many teams had a better 3rd down % that year? 117.
Know how many were worse? ONE.
I rest my case.No more of that talk, or I'll put the leeches on you.Comment -

#25LSU BIG!!!! I usually play on teams where the line looks funny (in this case that would be UNC), but I have been watching a lot of practice footage of LSU and UNC. LSU looks a whole lot more intimidating. They have too much talent all around for UNC to match up with. I think UNC is a solid team, but not here. LSU is going to be too much for them. I would play UNC heavy the game after (vs. Georgia Tech).Comment -

#30lsus offense will need to make plays in this game though against a very talented n athletic nc defense on the other side u have subpar nc offense so it will be a game of field position most likely but u have to like the fact that lsu will be playing with a lot of pride for the SEC as a whole while NC doesnt have much to represent for the weak ACCComment -

LSU is use to seing superb defenses. Hell they play in the SEC! Plus I'll put money on the fact that LSU defense is better and faster.Comment -

#32You bet you wil put money on it ,and you will lose, just like you did last season. UNC has the best overall defense in the nation. Ryan Baker is OUT for the UNC game, no matter what you think. He is out for at least 4 weeks. UNC has the top ZLB corps in the NCAA, and the #3 rated defensive back corps in the nation. LSU does not rank in the Top 10 in any of these catagories. UNC ranked 6th in total defesne last season. LSU ranked 11th, and lost many starters. There simply is no comparison.Comment -

#33LSU defense is NOT better than the Tar Heels.
They might play in the SEC but you could damn near make an NFL roster with UNCs D. They will stifle LSU's offense - period. Offensively, they're set at WR and the line looks decent. The only variable here that worries me is the play of TJ Yates. But keep in mind, if he falters, freshman Bryn Renner is nipping his heels and he is a STUD. Kid has playmaker written all over him.
Be smart and go for the UNDER. This game will be tight and low scoring. GLComment -
