Hey fellow football lovers, a newbie here
Brand new to the forum, hope I can provide some valuable insight into analyzing college football games. Glad I found this sight because there is a lot of great information here and some really smart cappers who know their stuff. Anyways, I'll do my best to prove that I am somehow who knows what he is talking about. I look for line values and exploit the weak ones. With that being said, here is what I'll be playing on Thursday with more to come later....

    Thursday

    Miami (OH) +5

I see them winning this game outright. Miami is my pick to when the MAC East. Ball St has a tremendous passing game but Miami's strength lies in a very good secondary. Look for Miami to come out and make a huge statement in this game and shut down Nate Davis & Co and leave Muncie with a huge win to kick off the college football season.

Best of luck to everyone, GitRDone!

TY Pags, good start to the season. Here's what I will be playing on Saturday (couldn't get a read on the Friday games).

      (1-0 YTD ATS)
      (0-0 YTD O/U)
      (1-0 YTD OVERALL)

      ATS

      Iowa -12

This game is being played in Soldier Field and although No Illinois is the home team in this game, it is still a neutral field. Iowa has 2 really good RB's in Albert Young and Damion Sims who will be going up against a defense that was really shaky last year. On the offensive side of the ball for the Huskies, they lose STAR RB Garrett Wolfe to the NFL who they relied on game in and game out. In fact, if Wolfe struggled, NIU's offense struggled last year. Look for them to need some time to gel offensively and with a below average defense, Iowa should be able to move the ball via the ground and shut down an offense that has a lot of question marks to begin the year. Iowa wins and I don't see this game being all that close.

      Missouri -4.5

To put it plain and simple, Missouri is better on the offensive and defensive side of the ball and Illini QB Juice Williams hasn't proven he can even remotely hit his receivers on a consistent basis. Look for Missouri to crowd the box and force Williams to throw the ball. This will lead to turnovers and points for the Tigers.

      UL Lafayette +30

South Carolina is without starting QB Blake Mitchell for the home opener and will thus have to rely on a strong running game. UL Lafayette's main defensive strength is against the run so they should be able to somewhat control the Gamecocks RB's. The Ragin' Cajuns run, run and run some more with 2 really good RB's and an excellent rushing QB in Michael Desormeaux. Remember last year, the Ragin' Cajuns went into Houston and beat a pretty good Cougar team last year. Look for the clock to keep on ticking with all the running these 2 teams will do and thus will lead to fewer # of offensive possessions for each team. Without their starting QB, I don't see how the Gamecocks cover this game and will gladly take the points in this one.

      Troy +25

Staying on the Sun Belt bandwagon, this is one of those games that might be a little closer than expected. Plus with Bama next week on the schedule, the Razorbacks just might be looking a little ahead. Troy has a really good defense that should be able to key on McFadden and let Casey Dick try to throw downfield (with no Marcus Monk at WR). Troy has an experienced QB returning and some good RB's so they can't be taken lightly especially with that defense of theirs. Lat year they lost to FSU by 7 and Georgia Tech by 15 on the road so they have proved before that they can play with the big boys. Look for Troy to be in this game well into the 3rd quarter and be creating an early national buzz of upset alert before Arkansas finally puts the icing on the cake.

      O/U

Florida Intl/ Penn St under 50

Both FIU and Penn St have good defenses and I don't see FIU scoring more than 6 points in this game so will Penn St be able to score 45 to make it go over, I highly doubt it.

      Marshall/Miami under 48.5

Miami has one of the better defenses in the nation and if Marshall gets 10 points, i'd be surprised. Can Miami score 39-40 points, not if they don't get better play from the QB position this year.

      Mississippi/Memphis under 49

Both teams have loads of question marks on the offensive side of the ball to begin the year. This game has the potential to go under the posted total by 20 points.

Middle Tenn St/ Florida Atlantic under 43.5

The Sun Belt is known for good defenses and weak offenses and this game pits 2 of the top 4 defenses in the league against one another. Look for the defenses to be ahead of the offenses early on and expect a defensive struggle in this one. The first team to 20 will win and neither may even get to that.

      Texas Tech/SMU over 59.5

Look for a good ol fashion shootout in this one. This game could turn into one of the better first week one games. Expect a whole lot of offense and very little defense in a game that could reach the 40's by both squads. I expect them to combine for 45 points by halftime.

Best of luck to everyone, GitRDone!

TY onlooker, I am glad to have found this forum. After a little more review of the Central Michigan game, I still like it but I found a game that I overlooked that after looking at it more closely, I had to play it. I think Missouri will be able to handle Illinois today. My final card for today is set, best of luck to everyone.

Wow what a day, I picked 3 of the closest games and luckily won all of them. What a way to start the season.

What happen to your Central Michigan play? Did you remove it last night?

Yea I removed it last night and replaced it with Missouri. I overlooked that it was in St. Louis on a neutral field instead of Champaign. Once I saw that, I jumped on Missouri and didn't end up playing C Michigan I play a max of 5 games a week ATS and 5 totals. I didn't end up putting my bets in until this morning for today's games.

                    Very nice move.

I think I opened your eyes on that CMU play, so you had to look for anther game.

Haha, I had 3 games to choose from which I really liked. I was also thinking Wyoming as Virginia was 1-5 on the road last year and first time playing in the thin air this early could really tire their players down. I initial chose C Michigan but than decided on Mizzo. Can't complain today.

Just 1 play for Monday, I love the over in the Tech/SMU game. It's the last play from my Saturday picks. Good luck to everyone as I am hoping to finish Week 1 with a 9-1 record.
