I didn't have a chance to reply earlier and since it seems the conversation has largely moved past, I'll refrain from posted the extensive breakdown of the fight I had planned, but I did want to mention a few things that I think are significant.
1. As has been mentioned already, Andrade can take a punch. True, she did get TKO'd in that Novaes fight, but did you see how much damage it took to get her there? This girl is built like a tank. She may give up something in the reach department, but with her squat, wrestler's build I think she can take far more abuse than most female fighters and that alone gives me a lot of confidence in her. Knowing she can take the abuse means more chances for her to catch her opponent napping... and that's something I think she's able to do because of my second point.
2. She has really good instincts. Fight IQ, situational awareness, moxie, call it what you will, what impresses me just as much as her chin is her ability to do what she needs to the moment she needs to do it. Whether it's catching an open chin while she's being pummelled, grabbing a guillotine during a transition, or taking the time to trap an arm during a GNP session, when I was watching her fights I kept noticing time and time again that she was doing exactly what she needed to do in the midst of situations that would have left most girls disoriented.
3. And that's another thing to consider. It's true that her striking seems sloppy, but the more WMMA I watch, the more I realize that's just typical of most female fighters who aren't called Cyborg. Maybe it's because they have to punch around their chests, or their relative lack of muscle mass, or I don't even know what, but regardless, the point I'm trying to make is that Andrade's striking is actually pretty good relative to the competition. The girl has 4 knockouts for a reason.
4. And speaking of the competition, another overlooked aspect is the experience she brings to the cage. I think most people look at this fight and see an experienced 29 year old WMMA veteran facing a young, untested, 21 year old prospect... but I just don't think that's the case. Andrade has just as many fights as Carmouche does and, before one brings up the fact that many of her past opponents were less than name-brand fighters, I think it's only fair to point out that there aren't that many name brand fighters out there for her to fight. This whole WMMA thing is so new that most female fighters out there don't have more than a few fights to their names. Did anyone happen to see the story about all the female fighters CageWarriors just signed? More than a few were being brought on with 0-0 records. So, for a girl who comes from the fields of Brazil to come into this fight with 11 fights already under her belt (including a hard-fought win in Russia), I think she definitely has enough experience to take on someone like Carmouche. A fighter who, as Sideloaded first pointed out, doesn't have a SINGLE win against an opponent with a winning record. True, she showed herself competent in some of the fights she lost (the Coenen fight in particular comes to mind), but at the end of the day she couldn't come up with the win.
I could go on about this, but the long and short of it is that I think this fight is FAR closer to a pick'em than the odds would indicate. If anything I could see Andrade being a slight dog, but given the odds involved, I myself am betting this fight pretty hard. Given all the crazy props, I'm basically making money as long as Andrade doesn't get KO'd in the first round and, if everything goes right, I have the potential to make a killing.

Melvin Guillard recently disclosed on MMAJunkie Radio two worrying things; first off his Grandmother just died, and he's going to miss her funeral. Second, his sister is having brainsurgery come the 31th. This kinda worries me, as we have seen how mentally strong Guillard has been in the past. Him potentially being unfocused, even the slightest, could spell doom for him. However i do believe the styles matchup is so good for him that he really should bring it home and Danzig's comments about him not being afraid to throw down and not respecting Melvins striking that much is reassuring, though what a fighter says and does is two different things. Anyone considering arbing out? Dude has been sleeping on the floor of a gym and just traning his ass off apparently and seems to know he really needs this win. Thoughts?Comment -

I think there's a few elements to it. One is that Ellenberger trains with Reign, so the average fighter is a lot more likely to have trained with Ellenberger than MacDonald. Ellenberger's power is vicious, too, and fighters really like to pick the guy with power.
I don't have much of a problem with Rory for his arrogance (I don't really think he's very arrogant), but I find him a bit unsettling. My girlfriend thinks he's one of the creepiest guys she's ever seen. She normally likes to watch fight tape with me, but not so much when it's MacDonald.Comment -

Was listening to yesterday's MMAJunkie Radio show, interview with Firas he mentioned that Rory didnt work with GSP this training camp (guessing that little snippet on 'Road To The UFC' was for show). He said GSP has longer arms/more reach and there were better guys that simulated Ellenberger's style. Idk, when it comes to takedown defense and clinch work I can't imagine a better guy to help get him prepared than GSP. Just thought it was odd.Comment -

I don't think there can be any doubt Rory hosts dead cat teaparties, dresses up in his mothers best sunday dress and gets GSP to tell him he's indeed pretty boy, but he's pretty damn savage in the cage, and could likely get his first top 10 win here.
Looking forward to seeing the dancing around the hot soup when he gets closer and closer to that title shot.
