#143Luckily had some before the staking frenzy picked up. Think if you stake your Eth its locked until ETh 2.0 releases. No thanks. Could be years before that happens. Not sure if ill buy anymore now...but with the hype and the fact it seems like 90% of the shitcoins and DeFi apps are built on Eth, Ill hold what I have. Messing around with Uniswap has been fun....until the fees went crazy.Comment -

#144Raiders, appreciate you sharing your insights. A few questions (and some may be dumb):
1) Does Ethereum process just like Bitcoin? I haven't bought ETH yet.
2) Is buying Ethereum akin to diversifying your portfolio?
3) Is there any scenario where BtC and ETH move in opposite directions? If so, what would that scenario be?
4) The Winkelvoss Twins called ETH "digital oil". WTF does that mean? And is that a good analogy?
Thx for any insight.
Ethereum is similar to bitcoin in that they were both proof of work to confirm. Ethereum is switching over to proof of stake. Other than that, they are much different. Bitcoin is simple and is more of a store of value. ETH uses smart contracts and was made to compliment BTC. Ethereum keeps evolving and projects can be built upon the Ethereum chain.
All ERC-20 tokens are built on the Ethereum chain. A site such as Uniswap makes it easy to exchange ERC-20 tokens, many of which can't be traded on other exchanges. Small fortunes have been made recently with DeFi coins. Many of the DeFi coins are built on ETH. ETH has boomed when some of the DeFi coins were launched.
At one time there was an inverse relationship between BTC and ETH when it did look like ETH would be a BTC competitor, but that no longer exists. Now they pretty much move together. During bull runs BTC will move first.
The ETH upgrade is going to bring in big institutional investors. CME will have ETH futures contracts in February.Last edited by raiders72001; 01-05-21, 03:52 AM.Comment -

#155Here's another thing about ETH
BTC dominance is 67% which is good news for BTC. ETH dominance is 11%. The gwei is gas which is used to make an ETH transaction. It's very high right now around $17. The bad news is that the more gas you pay, the faster your transaction will be confirmed. Jumping the line causes problems when you are trying to swap ERC-20 tokens at Uniswap. It also angers people. When you use a wallet such as MetaMask, you can add gas to quicken the confirmation. The ETH upgrade will get rid of jumping the line with a higher fee.
but i have always felt that cryptos can be their own worst enemy, if there is too much usage/transactions, then they become less useful because the fees and confirmation times get wacky, and then newer investors get turned off... nobody wants to pay $17 and wait 2 hours for a $100 transaction to go throughComment -

#174I recommend waiting for the next bear market crash. It could happen by summer or end of 2021. Once at the bottom then we push all in at $10k to $20k if Bitcoin reaches this low again.Comment -

#175Gotta think the institutional guys coming in are big picture, long term hodler types and not fast buck, get-in, get-out types. So, that gives me some confidence that wherever this bull run tops out, that the resulting bear market may not go as low as expected.... What those numbers will be, who knows, but it may be a historic change from the past run-up - peak - crash scenario....Comment
