Why are you on so many games today? You're going to lose credibility on here. Especially picking Cecil with the Jays lol. Good luck. Still way too many road teams imo however your record is still very good.

Brewers / Astros
PASS with notes below.
Notes and Stats
The Brewers are coming into this game winning eight of nine games. It’s hard to imagine that outside of Milwaukee they would come to a grinding halt on the road, but that has been the trend the season. Starting Gallardo tonight, who is a career 9-2 vs. the Astros, maybe just what the doctor ordered to start this set of road games off on the right foot. Gallardo faced Houston on Saturday night in a 6-2 win giving up 4 hits with no ERs over 7 innings. In his last 3 games (2-1) he is sporting a 1.35 ERA and WHIP of 0.80 averaging 6.7 innings and allowing a meager 3 ERs on 14 hits with 18 Ks. 2 of 3 of those games being on the road. He has been outstanding as of late to say the least. Gallardo is 9-2 career vs. the Astros with an ERA of 3.00 and WHIP of 1.18.
As we have stated here before we generally fade Happ in most scenarios. The stats are not great and to his credit he has been on the receiving end of many bad breaks due to the lack of run support, relievers and errors. Everyone would agree that those issues come with the territory when you on the worst team in the league. At the Brewers on Saturday he surrendered 2 ERs on 10 hits with 6 Ks. He pitched well but errors (3 un-earned runs) and no run support made the win impossible. Happ’s career vs. the Brewers is 2-1 with an ERA of 3.86 and a WHIP of 1.571.
Rationale
As I stated before giving opinions for or against the Astros during this rebuilding stage can be compared to predicting the outcome of a pre-season NFL game. Obviously with Gallardo on the bump and the Brewers playing lights out you can lean towards the Brewers without too much hesitation as reflected in the heavy -230 ML. I have no opinion on the RL, due to the Brewers not being a consistent road team. With Gallardo pitching well the Astros TT under 3 is an option to consider. BOL

*Colorado ML (Listed Pitchers)
*Angels RL (Listed Pitchers)
Weaver at home (6-1) and this should continue tonight against Seattle pitching Vargas with a 9.49 ERA and 2.39 WHIP. Vargas has surrendered 13 ERs and 22 hits in his last three games going 0-3. To his credit and worth noting Vargas’s career vs. Angels is 3-3 with a 2.44 ERA. Worth Noting: One of Weavers’ five loses came at Seattle back in May, 0-3 final. The Angels are 17-6 vs. Seattle past 3 seasons and 4-0 this season at home.

I will side with the Plillies who are rolling with 6 wins on the road pitching Worley 2.33 ERA and WHIP of 1.10 against a Giants team that has dropped 6 of 7 pitching Sanchez coming off the DL. Worley has a 2.00 ERA and a 0.44 WHIP when playing the Giants to date. Phillies with Worley beat the Giants 7-2 on the 26th.Comment -

*Yankees ML (CC vs. Lackey)
Yankees played well last night and were the all around better team on the field yesterday. They have been on the road and winning soundly with great numbers as of late and this should continue against Lackey today. Normally, the Sox would have Beckett in this spot but instead it falls to Lackey, who is not nearly the pitcher he was last year and has been hit hard by lesser teams. In addition, the Yankees are a good day game team as well. The early line is at -142 (5 Dimes) and this will increase quite a bit later today, in my humble opinion, so get this in early if you agree with the opinion or fade later.

The Astros Daily Opinion
8/07 Brewers / Astros
Pass with notes and opinion below.
Notes and Stats
Norris is very consistent and has pitched well enough to put the Astros in position to win a few games despite all the other issues. The Astros hope he will be able to maintain his 6.4 inning average despite leaving in the 5th last game with blister problems allowing a season high 10 hits. All reports say that Norris is fine for today. This is not a new problem and Norris will fight through it in later innings. Over his past four starts Norris has surrendered 9 ERs on 31 hits with 17 strike outs over 22.3 innings. Please make note that 1/3 of the hits came in the last game when his finger problem was at its worst. In Norris’ home starts he sports a 3.09 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP going 3-3 in 13 games giving up just 28 ERs. Career against the Milwaukee Norris is 3-0 with an ERA of 2.32 and a WHIP of 1.226.
In comparison, Greinke on the road has 5.61 ERA with a 1.385 WHIP going 2-4 surrendering 27 ERs in 8 games. In his last three games he is 2-1 with a 1.83 ERA and WHIP of 0.966 giving up just 4 ERs (Two of three games were at home). Greinke hasn’t faced the Astros since 2009 and those stats do not seem relevant to this situation.
Opinion
Bud Norris has been strong despite the finger problems and should give the Astros 5 good innings, all things considered. The Astros have provided good run support for Norris allowing him to win four of five starts (4-1 ag. ML), but several of those key players are gone. J.D. Martinez, Jose Altuve, and Jimmy Paredes are the new face of the Astros and have been a nice surprise on a struggling team. Obviously, the Brewers have had no problems against the Astros covering by two runs or greater in the last couple of games. The key to their winning today will be the performance of Grienke, who has struggled on the road going 6-18 against the ML over the past two seasons. With all of that in mind, there are two things to consider, firstly what happens when Norris is relieved in the 5th, or 6th against a Brewers offense that has been on a consistent multi game roll and secondly is Greinke going to keep the runs down against these rookies who have not been a complete push over. As the line suggest, most would side with the Under 7.5 in hopes that Norris, Greinke, and the relievers will keep this game in check (All of this is a good possibility). I lean for the Brewers to chip away at the TT over 4 throughout the game, especially once Norris steps off the bump. Good Luck either way!

8/7 Plus Plays
*Cards ML ( Garcia / Vazquez )
It was pathetic how many base runners the Cardinals stranded yesterday with Carpenter holding the Marlins offense in a head lock the entire game. This same scenario should play out today with Garcia on the mound despite recent road struggles. Cardinals need to put a few good innings together and stop stranding runners in order to take home another win today.
*Cubs ML ( Wells / Arroyo )
I watched Arroyo in his last outing here in Houston. This guy is consistent with one thing this season and that is giving up ERs. The Cubbies are rolling with a .296 average and hopefully they take batting practice against this guy today at home in hard place to play for away teams. The Reds should be without Phillips, but I just don’t think it will matter. Cubs hopefully win #8. Tail, Fade or Watch.
*Detroit ML (Scherzer / Chen)
Detroit needs to capitalize against Chen (0-2, 7.56 ERA and 1.740 WHIP) early like the past few teams who have faced him recently. Scherzer is 4-2 against KC with a 2.34 ERA and a WHIP of 1.323 and has been very consistent and should hold the lead.
*Padres ML ( Latos / Correia )
Padres have the Pirates number along with several other teams as of late. I will side with Matt Latos and the surging Padres offense against Correia who is struggling horribly with a 11.08 ERA and 2.35 WHIP in his past three, two of which have been at home.
*Dodgers / Diamondbacks Under 7.5
I have sided with Kennedy successfully most of the season whether on the road or at home. In this situation with the Dodgers winning and Kershaw on the bump I think it is best to sit back and watch these two duel it out in what should be a low scoring game.
**I realize this is a large card for me so pick the ones you like or fade them all. Good Luck and have a nice weekend.

The Astros Daily Opinion
8/08
Astros / Arizona
Pass with notes and opinion below.
Notes and Stats
Astros start LHP Wandy Rodriguez tonight vs. Arizona at Chase Field. Local and National press report that Wandy has been contending with neck and shoulder soreness. As reported, Wandy believes that he is fine and that most every player deals with some sort of issue during the season and has left the decision for Monday up to the Astros pitching coach, Doug Brocail. In his last four starts he has surrendered 12 ERs on 20 hits while walking 8 with a total of 27 Ks. In review of the last four games from 7/17 to the most recent 8/02, it reflects some drop off in performance. Is this due to his neck and shoulder or just the quality of hitters faced? That’s difficult to know, but it is good question and something worth considering tonight. Career vs. Arizona, Wandy is 2-5 with an ERA of 6.35 and WHIP of 1.67.
Arizona starts Hudson (11-7) tonight, who is coming off a road win (8/02) at the Giants, who pitched Lincecum (6-1 final). He surrendered that lone run in the 4th inning allowing 6 hits and walking one while striking out five. The Giants game was quite a rebound considering his last two games prior where he surrendered 9 ERS on 17 hits over 12.1 innings. Hudson faced Houston back in May winning a close game (7-6 final). In that game the Astros jumped out to an early 6-0 lead over the first 4 innings. Hudson gave up 5 of those earned runs on 8 hits.
Opinion
Worth noting and despite what the local and national guys write about Wandy’s neck and shoulder, the guy is admittedly hurting. In my opinion, he will probably give the Astros four or five innings, if recent history repeats itself. Arizona has faced some fairly tough pitching over their last 10 and is 5-5. They, as all teams facing the Astros, see this as their opportunity to rack up wins. If Hudson can roll with his recent success this is obviously Arizona’s game. No opinion on a high chalk ML. In my opinion, I would lean to another TT Over like yesterday with the Brewers. Arizona to chip away at the TT Over 4.5 through 9 innings. BOL

*Padres ML ( Stauffer / Pelfrey )
I have to lean back to San Diego today with Stauffer pitching against a Mets team missing Reyes and Murphy. San Diego has been playing consistently on offense and I have had good success when siding with Stauffer through the year and in certain situations like this one. ML -110
*Rangers / Mariners Over 9.5
My original thoughts on this game were to give an opinion for the Rangers on the RL due to the pitchers, but after watching the Rangers over the past weeks consistently taking games to the wire and then exploding for the win in high scoring games. I would rather forgo the stress of wondering if Matt Harrison is going to pitch well and side with the trends of a ball park which is hitter friendly and a Ranger team that can take this game over by themselves. Note: I’m always bias towards the Rangers and their games so tail or fade, or watch this opinion.

The Astros Daily and The Daily Plus- Postings on this site to date are 44-33 and recorded below. 5-3 week of 8/07.
8/09 Plus Plays
*Toronto ML (Cecil / Harden)
Brett Cecil gets the start tonight for Toronto after a somewhat disappointing outing on the road last week at Tampa allowing 3 ERs on 4 hits and 4 walks over 6 innings. Cecil has had great success prior to Tampa with a couple of back to back wins over the Rangers, one being a complete game and shut out. Currently, Cecil is 2-0 and sports a 1.64 ERA with a WHIP of 0.955.
Oakland is 4-6 in their last 10 and 20-39 on the road coming into Toronto tonight. Harden’ career vs. Toronto is 0-3 with an ERA of 5.74 and a WHIP of 1.488. Oakland is 1-7 in those starts. In his last 3 starts Harden 1-1 has an ERA of 4.24 with a WHIP of 1.24. Harden has held the hits down (10) during those starts but his walks have been (9). The worst of the three games was the last against the Mariners where he gave up 4 ERs on 5 hits with 3 BB in a loss. I like Cecil and Toronto’s offensive 5 run avg. at home in this spot but the home chalk here is -138 ML so pass or tail.
*Boston / Twins Over 8.5 ( Bedard / Liriano )
Both pitchers are coming into this game with high ERAs and WHIPs over their last three. Bedard 7.43/1.425 and Liriano 8.16 / 2.094. Both pitchers career WHIPs vs opponents are 1.6+ respectively. 8.5 might be a tad high but in my humble opinion I believe they can get there.
*Angels ML (Burnett / Haren )
Fortunately, the Yankees scored 13 runs over the first three innings otherwise AJ Burnett would of had them in a seven run deficit in last Wednesdays game versus the CWS. In that start, AJ surrendered 7 ERs on 13 hits over 4 innings until being pulled from the game. He is on a pretty bad run over his last six starts and won’t find any relief from the Angels. In those starts AJ has given up 24 ERs on 39 hits and walked 16. Burnett’s career vs. the Angels is 2-2 with an ERA 4.85 and a WHIP of 1.365.
Conversely, Haren is pitching extremely well. In his last 3 starts he has allowed only 3 ERs on 14 hits with 17 Ks over 24.2 innings work. Haren’s career vs. the Yankees is 4-1 with an ERA of 3.78 and a WHIP of 1.300. Both teams are coming off a nights rest and this should be an excellent game. Obviously, need the Angels to capitalize early on Burnet.

*Padres / Mets Over 8
I had the opinion yesterday with Padres and their offense put them in the position to win scoring 8 and you know the rest of the story. There is no doubt of the Padres having the offense to win games and take them over the total (10 of the last 13 Over)(40+ runs in 5 games). The quality of pitchers yesterday was much better than today’s match up with the Padres’ Le Blanc having a 5.93 ERA with 2.048 WHIP over his last 3 (2 of 3 Over) and the Mets Capuano slightly worse at 6.23 ERA and WHIP of 1.50 (2 of 3 Over). Of course, there are injuries on both sides of this one, but I believe this over is worth look with this pitching matchup and a Padres’ offense that can put 8 up without the Mets. Tail, Fade or Watch… BOL

#87Cecil is horrible so I will pass on that game. Tough to take the Angels as well even with Haren pitching the way the Yankees have been playing lately. Only play that I will take is the Boston/Minn over. You've been putting out way more plays lately and that usually spells bad news in the long run. One or two solid picks is the better way to go imo.Comment -

8/12 Daily Astros Opinion
Astros / Dodgers
Norris vs. Eovaldi
Write up on this game in the late afternoon…
8/12 Plus Plays
Angels ML +115 ( Santana / Morrow )
The Angels played very well this week despite the Yankees taking two of three. In all actuality the outcomes of those games could have gone either way due to the number of stranded base runners by both squads, especially the Angels. Siding with a quality pitcher like Santana at this number is more than worth it versus a Toronto team with all their inconsistencies as of late. Santana has an ERA .68 with a WHIP of .722 over 26.3 innings. Santana won his last three and pitched complete games in 2 of the 3. In addition, Morrow over his past three is at an ERA of 5.50 and a WHIP of 1.278. Morrow on average pitches around 6 innings and if you have followed or sided with the Jays as of late then you were probably burned in late innings due to their relievers. In my humble opinion, this is most likely an under game with the Angels on top and increasing their lead towards the end off the relievers.
Mets / Arizona (Gee / Kennedy) Under 8.5
The Mets have been struggling from an offensive standpoint after having a couple of top players placed on the DL as evident in their series versus the Padres. I think it’s safe to say that Arizona had a lack luster performance versus the Astros starting pitchers. Add Kennedy (14-3) (1.10 WHIP) and Gee (10-3) (1.22 WHIP) to this situation and I would think 8.5 seems a little high. Granted, Dillon Gee’s last three outings have been not been his best with a sub-par ERA and all three games going over the total 8 to 8.5. He seems to pull it together when playing Arizona this season carrying a 3.00 ERA and WHIP of 1.000. In contrast, Kennedy has been very consistent all year; over his last three starts he is 3-0 with a 3.00 ERA and WHIP of .905. Historically these two are over the total magnets and I could be reading too much into the last six games for both teams; So tail, fade or pass.
Phillies RL ( Hamel / Hernandez )
Gut opinion for me due to Hernandez starting on the bump for Wash and the Phillies offense as of late. I have been burned more than once with the Phillies on the RL in the past; so please Pass, Tail, or Fade.

8/13 Early Plus Plays
Angels ML -115 ( Weaver / Romero )
I gave an opinion for the Angels and Santana yesterday as a dog for a good value on the ML. The Angels continue to play solid ball by providing their excellent pitchers with good run support. No one can deny Santana’s dominance on the mound with his 3rd straight CG. With a lot team’s relievers burning off leads with costly mistakes late in the game, pitchers like Santana and Weaver bring a serious advantage to the Angels and us. I will side again with the Angels and their Ace on the bump today going late in the game at a very worthy number. I understand those of you who want to make the valid road team argument in this situation and the fact that some of these big time pitchers are due for the letdown, but I have to remain firm in my opinion due to the continued mistakes and inconsistencies of the Toronto squad at the plate. Additionally, I’m taking in consideration the extra days rest received by Weaver due to the suspension. Another slight angle for me in this situation is Weaver’s aggressive no BS attitude on the mound sporting the lowest ERA of them all. Siding with the Angels in what should be a tight game and getting that much needed win. Good luck and as usual Tail, Fade, or Watch.
(Additional pitching stats for this matchup found in today’s second opinion below)
Angels / Toronto Under 7 -110
As stated yesterday, I had a slight opinion on the under but would not completely stand behind it due in part to the Toronto relievers handing me two straight late inning multi run losses and some slight pitching inconsistencies from Morrow. Morrow gave up the runs but Santana checked them down at 1; the Under hitting with a couple to spare. If Weaver and Romero can remain on track with late inning outings, this game should follow yesterday’s outcome with runs to spare. Romero has been lights out lately going 3-0 with a WHIP of .658 and reaching the 8th inning in his last outing. Worth noting: Romero’ career vs. the Angels is 2-2 with an ERA of 3.76 and a WHIP of 1.59. Romero hasn’t faced them this year. The Angels average 3.7 runs per game versus LHP. Weaver’s career vs. Toronto is 7-1 with an ERA of 2.68 and a WHIP of 0.988. Weaver faced Toronto on 4/10 in a 4-1 win allowing 1 run and 4 hits with 10 Ks. 2of 3 games this season have gone under the total. If you followed last night’s games you witnessed Hamel and CC throwing batting practice let’s hope for better results here. Under 7, Tail, Fade or Watch.
Boston ML -136 (Beckett / Hernandez)
Anytime I can get Beckett at this line its worth risking some units of profit, especially against Seattle. Boston and Beckett have Seattle’s number going 6-1 when he is on the mound. Beckett carries a 2.87 ERA with a 1.087 against Seattle. Beckett faced Seattle back on 7/23 winning 3-1 while going 7 innings and allowing 1ER on 7 hits. In comparison, Hernandez is 4-2 vs. Boston with a 3.39 ERA and WHIP of 1.304. Hernandez faced Boston on 7/22 and lost 4-2. This is a bias square play for me; so please Pass, Tail, or Watch.

These teams are really bad, but after the collapse of Hamels, CC, Weaver, and Beckett this week; I really can’t do much worse siding with Lyles over Kuroda.

*Cubs / Astros Over 8.5 ( Lopez / Sosa )
The new Astros’ players like JD Martinez and Altuve have proven they can put runs on the board and Lopez is going to give them an opportunity to do just that at home tonight. In comparison, the Cubs always find a way to make a game close or win outright like yesterday. They are a scrappy team and will most probably win this game, but the Astros will make it close with Lopez on the bump. Your call, I lean to the over. Fade, Tail, or Watch.
Enjoy the Texans game and win tonight.

The Astros Daily and The Daily Plus- Postings on this site to date are 55-44 and recorded below. 4-3 week 8/14
8/16 Plus Plays
*St Louis / Pirates Under 7.5 ( Carpenter / Karstens )
This total is probably right on the edge but I will side under the total with Carpenter and Karstens despite the past 3 outing stats of Karstens. Karstens’ career stats vs. St Louis are strong with an ERA of 1.50 and a WHIP of 1.056. All of his games vs. St Louis have gone Under the total of 7 and 7.5, respectively. According to MLB Stats Pujols and Berkman are a combined 3 of 15 against Karstens. In comparison, Carpenter who is 12-2 career vs. Pittsburgh has an ERA of 2.24 and WHIP of 0.981. The Under is 11 of 16 in his career starts vs. Pittsburgh. St Louis has gone Under the total in 9 of its last 13 games on and off the road. St Louis has the ability to do damage at any moment, but they can never seem bring it for an entire game. We are all familiar with the Cinderella ride of Pittsburgh and I don’t discount last night’s offensive performance, but I don’t believe they can pull a repeat against Carpenter. Looking at this game from 10,000 feet the Under looks right, but its depends heavily on Karstens’ performance. Your call here, I lean Under.
*Phillies RL -1 ( Collmenter / Halladay )
One line from MLB Stats is good enough for this write up; “The Phillies have outscored the Diamondbacks 50-16 during their seven game home winning streak in the series.” Everyone can fill in the blanks from there. Pass, Fade, or Watch
*Baltimore / Oakland Over 8 ( Matusz / Moscoso )
My first inclination was to side with Oakland on ML in this particular situation with Matusz pitching. In my humble opinion, there is better value and safety when siding with the total due to the overwhelming trends with Oakland’s games. 3 of 4 games in this series have been over the total when played at Oakland. 9 of 14 prior Baltimore games have gone over the total. Oakland is 9-1-2 O/U/P in its last 12 games. I believe siding with the Over and Oakland’s offense versus Moscoso ability to dominate Baltimore is a safer opinion especially after yesterday’s game. Pass, Tail, or Watch.
*Rangers TT Over 4.5
Chatwood (2.200 WHIP) should provide the Rangers’ offense with ample opportunities to surpass 4.5 runs.
Good Luck!
