Austria topped their World Cup qualifying group as they get set to face newcomers to the tournament, Jordan, from Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., at midnight ET on Wednesday.

Austria is the -294 betting favorite to take all three points, and I'm backing them in my Austria vs. Jordan prediction. As the odds are so short, I sourced an appealing combination play and focused on a goal-scorer pick. The analysis below is part of our World Cup predictions

⚽ Who will win Austria vs. Jordan?

Austria topped their qualifying group, losing one of eight matches. They lost once in the previous 11, a 1-0 defeat to Romania in a World Cup qualifier.

A solid unit that doesn't allow much, with a decent amount of offensive firepower, Austria should get past first-time participants Jordan. Jordan had a relatively easy path to the World Cup.

They finished second in a group that included South Korea, Oman, Iraq, Palestine, and Kuwait, and they lost both pre-tournament friendlies to Switzerland and Colombia, 4-1 and 2-0, respectively.

Score prediction: Austria 2, Jordan 0

💵 My best bet: Austria ML and Jordan not to score (+105)

South Korea, a side that plays at a level close to Austria, beat Jordan 2-0 in World Cup qualifying. Austria is even more stout defensively, and they kept clean sheets in three of the previous five, including both pre-tournament friendlies against South Korea and Tunisia. Jordan enters the tournament winless in five. Their previous victory (1-0) came against Saudi Arabia in December. Jordan, ranked 65th, should remain competitive, but they won't have enough to upset or score against the 24th-ranked Austrians.

🦶 Who will score in Austria vs. Jordan?

Michael Gregoritsch, F, Austria (+120)

Marko Arnautović is arguably more prolific, but Michael Gregoritsch is slightly more reliable. The FC Augsburg forward scored six goals in his last 11 appearances for Austria. The 32-year-old has only one multi-goal outing with Austria, with 21 of his 24 goals coming as single tallies.

That consistency convinced me to back him over Arnautović. The on-loan Brøndby striker netted six goals in 17 Bundesliga appearances last season, and he has an excellent chance of cracking the starting 11.

If Gregoritsch starts on the bench, he'll likely be able to impact proceedings off the bench in the second half.

Best Austria vs. Jordan goal-scorer pick: Michael Gregoritsch (+120 via FanDuel)

🥅 Will both teams score in Austria vs. Jordan?

Austria kept a clean sheet in three of the previous five matches, including in both pre-tournament friendlies. Jordan hasn't kept a clean sheet in the last five, allowing three goals per game.

Austria is by no means prolific, but they scored 22 goals in eight qualifying matches to top their group. They only conceded four.

Both teams to score (BTTS) pick: No (-137 via BetMGM)
