🏆 Who will win Senators vs. Hurricanes?

This is a play for two main reasons. First, I'm just expecting more of the same. These teams have met four times this year, and Carolina has come out on top in three of those meetings.

But secondly, and perhaps even more importantly, the Canes were hands down the better team in Game 1. While it might seem on the surface that Frederick Andersen's shutout was the more impressive performance, the fact is that Linus Ullmark was the only reason the Sens weren't dispatched by an even greater margin.

Tonight, the Canes jump out to a 2-0 series lead.

Hurricanes moneyline (-152)

Carolina is full of NHL playoff experience, playing in an eighth straight postseason; Ottawa hasn't won a playoff series since 2017, and it's something most of the players on the team don't know anything about.

The grind won't get any easier tonight for the visitor. The Canes finished the regular season 29-10-2, the league's best home record, while the Sens wrapped up the year 21-15-5 on the road. This is going to be a tough environment to play in tonight.

The moneyline is my play here to -160, and from there I'm moving to the Hurricanes puck line.

Andrei Svechnikov anytime goal scorer (+180)

Things could have been much worse for the Sens in the opener, as Ullmark logged 2.82 goals saved above expected, per MoneyPuck. If he doesn't do that again tonight, the door should open for Svechnikov.

Second on the team in the regular season with 31 goals in the regular season, the right wing found the back of the net in two of the three regular-season meetings with Ottawa. And while he didn't score in the opener, it wasn't for lack of trying.

He actually led the team with 1.424 xGoals while posting six shots on goal on a whopping 10 shot attempts.

With Carolina looking to take hold of the series, he'll be firing away again tonight, and this time, Ullmark won't be so lucky.

While I do like the lines in this game, I'm going to do what I normally do and keep it to two units. I was tempted to go a little heavier as I do like both of the player prop angles I'm addressing here, but remaining consistent is always the right move. Getting carried away can lead to problems, and wacky things can happen quickly in the playoffs. 

Even though we're still dedicating the 0.2 units to the SGP, I wouldn't knock anyone who felt they should adjust to 0.1 on the +1100 line. We're just having a bit of fun here with that one, banking on the Senators collapsing.

With very little surprise, this line has moved toward the Hurricanes since it opened in the -140 range, with the best sports betting sites all trading at longer than -150 now. I'd lay off the moneyline and move to the puck line if this gets to -160 or -165, and I think that's very likely as the day goes on. 

The total has held at the Over juiced up 5.5 at most operators, but in some cases we've seen the flip to a flat 6. I'd rather get in on the 5.5 than the 6, but you can comfortably play that line if you're happy with a push outcome.
