The only thing that sounds better than opening night at TD Garden is securing a 2-0 start to my NHL season with the Rangers vs. Bruins prediction below. 

The Bruins are the -130 betting favorite for Tuesday's home contest (8 p.m. ET, ESPN), and I like their chances of getting off to a winning start against the new-look Rangers.

Bruins ML (-130 via FanDuel)

The Bruins are one of the best teams in season openers in the last decade, with an 8-2 record. Marco Strum and Co. kick off their season in the friendly confines of TD Garden, where they had the second-best points percentage (.720) last season.

Only the Carolina Hurricanes had a better home-ice record, securing one more point. The Rangers will be much improved from last season, with newcomers Oliver Bjorkstrand, Joe Veleno, Sean Durzi, Alberts Smits, Cole Beaudoin, Marcus Pettersson, and, most importantly, Pavel Dorofeyev strengthening the roster.  

However, with an abbreviated preseason, it will take more time for them to gel. The Bruins face no such adjustment period.

David Pastrnak Over 0.5 assists (-130 via FanDuel)

For the longest time, Pastrnak was considered a shoot-first player. Not so much in the last three seasons, though, with Pastrnak known as one of the league’s premier setup men. 

He finished with the sixth-most assists last season (71), one more than Macklin Celebrini in five fewer games. 

Pasta notched 37 assists in as many home games, and he dominated the Blueshirts, amassing nine assists in the previous two meetings and at least one in four of the last five.
