For now, Los Angeles looks like the clear title favorite and should enter Week 1 as the team to beat with reigning NFL MVP odds winner Matthew Stafford leading the offense and Garrett, who once again leads the NFL Defensive Player of the Year odds, anchoring a new-look defense for the Rams in 2026.

🏆 Why Rams are Super Bowl favorites after Garrett trade

The Rams came within a whisker of making the Super Bowl last year: they lost out on home-field advantage after the craziest 2-point conversion you'll ever see, then fell short in a thrilling NFC Championship that saw them outgain the Seahawks by nearly 100 yards.

So take arguably the hungriest team in the entire field after last year's agonizing defeat, bring back the reigning MVP and his top targets, and add one of the best defenders in NFL history in exchange for a young pass-rusher and picks? Sign me up for that.

Here's a look at the proposed trade details and why, if executed, the trade makes Los Angeles the team to beat ahead of the 2026-27 NFL season:

Myles Garrett trade details

Rams receive Browns receive
Myles Garrett (DE) Jared Verse (DE)
2027 1st-round pick
2028 2nd-round pick
2029 3rd-round pick

What Garrett brings to the Rams

The Rams' defense was already one of the best in football last year, ranking 10th in points allowed (20.4 PPG) and fourth in defensive DVOA and pressure rate (26.3%).

That was before adding Garrett, a singular force of destruction along the defensive line who could go down as the best pass rusher of all time. He set the single-season sack record (23) last season en route to his second DPOY award in three years. He's finished with double-digit sacks in eight straight seasons and ranks in the top 30 all-time with 125.5 career sacks - another "average" year could land him in the top 10.

At 30, Garrett remains in the prime of his career after last year's record-setting campaign, and he'll dictate opposing game plans on a weekly basis for a defense that already frustrated opponents under defensive coordinator and rising star Chris Shula. With the Rams likely to build early leads behind Stafford and Co., we could see Garrett's best years ahead, which should absolutely horrify the rest of the league.

Rams all-in on another title run

The "F them picks" Rams are back in full force after an aggressive offseason that already positioned L.A. as the potential title favorite even before the Garrett deal.

General manager Les Snead made his first big splash back in March, when they traded for star cornerback Trent McDuffie from the Chiefs and added cornerback Jaylen Watson in free agency. They still have Byron Young and Poona Ford upfront, too, to complement the game-wrecking Garrett along the edge.

Most importantly, the Rams enticed Stafford to stave off retirement for at least one more season - and potentially two after signing the MVP quarterback to an extension through 2027 - even after drafting replacement QB Ty Simpson in the first round. The Alabama product will clearly need to bide his time, as these Rams are all in on February 2027.

💰 Should you bet the Rams to win the Super Bowl?

On paper, this is the best team in the NFL. Stafford remains the most dangerous quarterback in the league with a receiving corps that was virtually unstoppable in 2025, and this defense could be the best in football with Garrett terrorizing opposing QBs.

This entire offseason is giving me strong 2021 vibes, when the Rams dealt two first-round picks for Stafford and added Von Miller and Odell Beckham Jr. ahead of a title run. I was all over the Rams that season and it paid off that February with a Lombardi Trophy and a big payday for bettors like me; could we be seeing a repeat in 2026-27?

The biggest difference: that team entered the year as a dark-horse candidate to win it all, not the overwhelming favorite, so the risk/return is a tougher sell five years later. That said, we've never seen the reigning MVP and DPOY on the same roster, and I still contend that Sean McVay is the best coach in football as both a play-caller and culture builder.

The Rams will be trouble this year for the rest of the league, but the competition is fiercer now than it was five years ago. Given the sharp market movement, I'd rather bet the Seahawks or Ravens - who headlined my 2027 Super Bowl predictions - with a stronger return should either of those teams win it all.

But I truly can't knock anyone for paying the short price on Los Angeles to win their second Super Bowl title in six seasons. The Rams were arguably the best team in football last year but came inches short of besting their rival Seahawks; if they can repeat their success on offense from last year, Garrett could make all the difference on the other side.

💡 Can the Rams survive brutal schedule?

After the NFL schedule release, I broke down every team's true strength of schedule - and the Rams have the third-toughest slate of all 32 teams.
