Patrick Mahomes is sitting out the entire preseason for the first time in his career, and that’s a big reason I expect Seattle to cover as a 2.5-point betting favorite tonight with my Seahawks vs. Chiefs prediction.

In addition to following the line movement from the Seahawks as opening underdogs to favorites, I also expect a low-scoring game and agree with the plummeting total. Friday's kickoff from Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City is set for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN Unlimited).

The Chiefs announced Garrett Nussmeier is getting the start at quarterback. That caused the line to jump the fence from Chiefs -1.5 to Seahawks -2.5, and I agree with that line movement.

Drew Lock should still see action for Seattle, and he led the second unit on a seven-play, 79-yard touchdown drive last week. Overall, he completed his first 11 passes while the team scored on its first three drives.

Kansas City has only managed 27 points through two preseason games, and it even went three-and-out on back-to-back possessions with the experienced Justin Fields under center.

Score prediction: Seahawks 20, Chiefs 14

🚀 Seahawks vs. Chiefs same-game parlay

I don’t have a lot of confidence in Kansas City’s offense in a game where Garrett Nussmeier and Chris Oladokun should see all the action under center. Nussmeier in particular has completed just 52.9% of his passes in the preseason, while averaging a paltry 4.4 yards per attempt.

In addition, the Seahawks defense held the Titans without a touchdown for three and a half quarters last week. The fact that they held Tennessee to 10 rushing yards through three Cam Ward-led drives has me adding the Under as a second leg to this SGP.

I could certainly make the case for the Under being the best bet in this game. After all, Kansas City held Tampa Bay to one first down and nine net yards in two drives with Baker Mayfield as quarterback. I will also look to add a Seahawks first quarter or first half spread play, as they have outscored opponents 23-3 in the first quarter of their two preseason games. Since Seattle started out as underdogs, I am not as worried about bucking the trend that preseason underdogs of +1 to +3 are 205-135-1 ATS (60.3%) since 2015.
