A week after several favorites lost (Texans, Jets, and 49ers), my NFL moneyline picks for Week 8 make sure to back that trend and include at least one sizable underdog, with more in-depth analysis on why I expect the league’s last remaining unbeaten team to lose.

Ten NFL favorites of at least six points have lost outright entering this week (in 31 such matchups). Will anyone add their name to that list in Week 8?

Vikings vs. Lions (-164 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

We’re about to find out how legitimate of a Super Bowl contender (or even NFC North contender) the 6-0 Vikings are in the coming weeks.

So far, Minnesota has faced the third-easiest strength of schedule (.390 opponents’ win percentage), but a game against Detroit kicks off the league’s toughest stretch over the next four weeks (.731 opponents’ win percentage). Minnesota’s top-ranked scoring defense (12.3 points per game) will soon face a string of high-powered offenses and talented quarterbacks, starting this week with Jared Goff.

Detroit’s NFL-worst pass defense should continue to improve with the return of Brian Branch (who picked off Jordan Love last week), and Minnesota isn’t built to take advantage of that weakness with the second-fewest points scored by a team that has started 6-0 since 1950 (125).

Falcons vs. Buccaneers (-130 via BetMGM) ⭐⭐⭐

Tampa Bay looked dominant in Baker Mayfield’s first game back, and its 33 first-half points were the most by any team this season as it improved its record against Carolina since 2020 to 11-2. The optimistic sign going forward is that Mayfield didn’t need to do too much, as running back Bucky Irving gained a season-high 73 yards after contact (his fifth-most in a game in his career). The Buccaneers ran for 258 yards as a whole, the second-most by any team this season.

Tampa Bay was arguably just as impressive on defense. It forced a season-high four turnovers and generated a 51.5% pressure rate on Bryce Young with 11 different players recording a pressure.

Each of the last six meetings between these teams have been decided by six or fewer points, but I like the Buccaneers to end a three-game home losing streak in this rivalry.

Chiefs vs. Broncos (+105 via DraftKings) ⭐⭐⭐

This is an early rematch between these two AFC West rivals after Kansas City beat Denver 31-10 on Monday Night Football in Week 1. But that was just the Chiefs’ second win in the last six matchups with the Broncos, and Seattle gave Denver a blueprint for slowing down Kenneth Walker III and the Kansas City running game.

In Week 1, Walker III totaled 173 rushing yards, the most by a Chiefs player since Week 16, 2012. But Denver’s defense helped out a lot in that regard, logging the most missed tackles on running backs and allowing the most yards on outside runs. In all, the Broncos defense allowed 5.8 yards per rush after finishing last year with just 3.8 allowed.

Kansas City is coming off a game with zero explosive plays (no 10-yard rushes or 20-yard passes) and no touchdowns or red-zone drives. That doesn’t exude confidence heading into a road game at Mile High against a Broncos defense that will need to contain Kansas City's ground game much more effectively than it did in Week 1.
