After opening as 5.5-point favorites, San Francisco has steamed up to -7.5, which puts value on Washington’s full game point spread while getting more than the key number of seven. But given the 49ers’ second half dominance and the fact that they could look sluggish after an emotional road victory over the defending Super Bowl champions, I’m backing the Commanders in the first half all the way down to +3.5.

San Francisco has the third-largest point differential in the second half this season (plus-31), while Washington has been outscored 95-to-61 after halftime (the league’s second-worst margin). The Commanders defense has also been a sieve in the fourth quarter, allowing an NFL-worst 55 points.

We're getting a full point more worth of value at a better price at FanDuel, as the other top sports betting sites like bet365 and DraftKings offer a spread of +4.5 at -115 (53.49% implied odds).

Injuries, suspensions, and Daniels' legs should keep this game close

San Francisco allows the eighth-fewest yards per carry to running backs, but linebacker Dre Greenlaw’s one-game suspension makes the 49ers’ defensive front seven less intimidating. Even still, the 49ers have had trouble with pass catchers out of the backfield, allowing the highest rate of receptions to opposing running backs.

If Washington’s running backs are able to stretch the field horizontally on pass routes, that opens up running lanes for Jayden Daniels, who is coming off his second career game with 100-plus rushing yards.

Lastly, Deebo Samuel is missing this game with a hamstring injury, while fellow wide receiver Jacob Cowing is questionable with an ankle injury. Washington’s defense has allowed the most passing touchdowns and Brock Purdy has multiple touchdown passes in every game, but Samuel’s absence allows the Commanders to key in on Mike Evans and George Kittle more.
