As we laid out in our NFL preseason betting guide, it's hard to have too much confidence when betting on exhibition football. But when you find a spot worth betting into, there's value to be found across our best sportsbooks.
That's the case with this first-half bet on Saturday. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has already publicly stated he'll play his starters for the first quarter before turning to the second unit and that he'll "play everybody" - which should include quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce.
Jaguars coach Doug Pederson has said he'll do the same, in part to match what the Chiefs are planning to do. So why, exactly, are the defending champions catching even money in the first half when they'll be rolling out their first unit for the first 15 minutes?
Market sleeping on Chiefs
We aren't the only ones to catch onto this seemingly mispriced line. Some of our best sports betting apps have Kansas City as a full-game underdog but a favorite in the first quarter or first half - presumably a nod to the Chiefs' plan to play their starters.
Others, like Betway, have the reigning champs as underdogs in the first half. Even with the uncertainty of the second quarter, I still trust the starters more in the first quarter and can stomach some volatility in the second given these +100 odds, which pay out $1 on a winning ticket for every dollar wagered.
While you can never be too sure in the preseason, I'm expecting an early score from the best offense in the league - one that added speedsters Hollywood Brown and Xavier Worthy for this season. You have to expect Mahomes will try to air it out to one of those two in the early going, which could be all we need to cash this preseason bet.
