Will there be a White Christmas in Toronto in 2023? Odds Set Line for Holiday Snowfall

FanDuel Ontario is offering betting odds for whether there will be a White Christmas in Toronto.

A pleasant snowy Christmas has been inconsistent in Toronto, and now one of our top Ontario sports betting sites is posting odds for 2023. Will the city get that snow globe feel on Christmas morning?

For many, the thought of a White Christmas leads to warm images of Bing Crosby, and the childhood nostalgia tied to zipping down a hill on a toboggan that was unwrapped moments earlier.

For others with travel plans, it could induce crippling anxiety and thoughts of calling in the military (again).

No matter where you stand on the possibility of Canada's largest city becoming a holiday wonderland, there's always something to unite us all: betting odds.

Toronto has been experiencing some temperatures in early December that don't require a winter coat, and have even dipped into the Celsius double digits. With that unseasonable warmth continuing at times, FanDuel Ontario has posted White Christmas in Toronto odds for 2023.

Will there be a White Christmas in Toronto?

Relying on any long-term forecast is often difficult. But for what it's worth, at the time of this writing on Dec. 12, The Weather Network is forecasting a 4 C high for Toronto on Christmas Day, with only a 10% chance of precipitation.

That's downright balmy for late December and the very earliest days of winter. There isn't much snow in the forecast for Toronto in the days leading up to Santa's big ride either, with fewer than 1 cm showing for just two days. The unusually elevated December temperatures persist often too, reaching 9 C on Dec. 15. The daily high rarely drops below 0 C prior to Christmas. That includes forecasted highs of 4 C on Dec. 23 and 5 C on Christmas Eve.

Recent historic weather data also doesn't favor a White Christmas in Toronto. Between 1988 and 2021 there have been 21 green Christmases in the City of Toronto, compared to 16 between 1955 and 1987, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.

The city will no doubt get bombarded eventually this winter, and its citizens will surely be left to call upon the help of all local schoolchildren. But that might not come until deeper into January.
