Rays vs. Astros Prediction & Picks: MLB Odds for Friday, July 3

My Rays vs. Astros prediction breaks down the best bets, player props, home run pick, and same-game parlay I’m betting today.
Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Jonathan Aranda and Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Junior Caminero celebrate, and both players feature prominently in my Rays vs. Astros prediction.

The Tampa Bay Rays have surged into first place in the AL East thanks to some recent quality play, and they'll look to continue that momentum in this series opener against the Houston Astros. First pitch from Daikin Park in Houston is set for 8:15 p.m. ET (Apple TV). This game is a virtual pick'em in a starting pitching matchup between Nick Martinez and Spencer Arrighetti.

My Rays vs. Astros prediction backs the Over in a game featuring two regressing pitchers. That should mean good things at the plate for the scorching-hot Junior Caminero for my MLB picks.

🏆 Who will win Rays vs. Astros?

Houston has been outscored 20-1 in Arrighetti’s last three starts, while Tampa Bay had a plus-33 run differential during an eight-game winning streak. That has me backing the Rays as road favorites.

Score prediction: Rays 5, Astros 4

💰 Rays vs. Astros prediction & best bet

Over 8 (-115)

Arrighetti is amid a three-start losing streak while pitching to a 9.00 ERA in his last five. Meanwhile, Nick Martinez was always due for regression from a 2.66 ERA considering he sports an 84.3% strand rate and 15% strikeout rate. That explains the big difference between his 3.72 FIP and his 4.54 xFIP.

The regression for Martinez has already started, as he's posted a 6.04 ERA over his last four starts.

The Over is my top play, especially since Tampa Bay averaged more than six runs per game during a seven-game winning streak.

📡 SBR Edge: The streaking Rays

Tampa Bay has won eight consecutive games for the first time since March-April of 2023, when it won 13 straight.

🔥 Best Rays vs. Astros player prop bet

Junior Caminero Under 0.5 strikeouts (+175)

Caminero's home run streak was snapped at six games, leaving him tied for the longest such run in franchise history. Up to that point, he was a blistering 14-for-31 with nine home runs and 20 RBI over the prior eight games.

The slugger's offensive success this season is due largely to outstanding improvement in plate discipline. In 2025, Caminero posted a 32.1% chase rate and 6.3% walk rate, which culminated in a 92.4 mph average exit velocity and 51.4% hard-hit rate. Entering yesterday, Caminero’s chase percentage this year was down to 28.3%, while his walk rate has improved to 12.9%, as did his average exit velocity (93.5 mph) and hard-hit rate (52.4%).

He's gone without a strikeout in four of his last six games, making this a creative way to get action on one of the league’s hottest hitters.

💣 Rays vs. Astros home run prediction

Jonathan Aranda to hit a home run (+499)

Jonathan Aranda and the rest of the Rays' sluggers have been overlooked given what Caminero has been doing recently. But there's a lot to like in this matchup, especially since Arrighetti has allowed three home runs in each of his last two starts.

Aranda has hit five of his 13 home runs on pitches outside the strike zone. That's tied for the second-most such homers leaguewide, and it's three behind teammate Caminero’s eight.

Arrighetti has allowed six of his nine home runs to left-handed batters in just 27 more at-bats compared to righties. He's also produced a worse home run rate at home (five allowed in 30 1/3 innings) than on the road (four in 41 2/3 innings).

🚀 Rays vs. Astros same-game parlay

All three legs of this same-game parlay work well together in helping the Over cash. However, I'm swapping my Aranda home run wager to back him driving in a run with the last leg, which he's done at least once in six of his last nine games.

💵 Rays vs. Astros SGP picks

  • Over 8.5 (-105)
  • Junior Caminero Under 0.5 strikeouts (+175)
  • Jonathan Aranda Over 0.5 RBI (+190)

💡 How I'm betting Rays vs. Astros: MLB strategy

Follow all of our MLB analysis and expert predictions for baseball season.

Tampa Bay is amid a season-high eight-game winning streak, which makes its -110 moneyline odds (carrying a 52.38% implied probability) more than a fair price. But I couldn't fade Houston, especially at home, given its AL-best 12-7 overall record since June 12.

I also wanted some exposure to Caminero, but his home run odds (+250) and RBI odds (+105) were too steep for my liking. Arrighetti has recorded seven-plus strikeouts in four straight starts, but I don't expect him to challenge the sizzling Caminero often in their head-to-head matchups.

📊 Live Rays vs. Astros odds

Any line movement thus far has gone in Tampa Bay's favor. BetMGM moved up to -115 from an opening number of -110 before returning there and aligning with the rest of the market, while DraftKings made the Rays a slight -112 favorite, moving off -108.

DraftKings and bet365 are also alone among the best sports betting sites while moving the total. DraftKings increased its total a half run from 8 to 8.5, while bet365 went the opposite direction from 8.5 down to 8.
