After the first two contests in this midweek series went to extra innings, we're laying off the moneyline this game in favor of the total - which feels ripe for exploitation thanks to the worst pitching matchup of this series so far.

The Mets' rotation has been a bright spot for this team amid its surge atop the NL standings, but Canning has been the weak link among the top five starters. His 4.07 FIP ranks worst in New York's primary rotation, and he's been the second-worst arm by strikeout rate (21.8%), walk rate (10.9%), and ERA (3.23).

He's still been miles better than Tony Gonsolin, whose feel-good return for the Dodgers is sullied by a career-worst 5.23 ERA and 6.01 FIP - the latter ranking seventh-worst among all starters with at least 31 innings pitched. He's also served up eight home runs while ranking third-worst in HR/9 (2.32).

Those are the types of numbers that simply don't fly in a matchup between two top-five lineups with All-Stars galore. These teams combined for 11 runs on Tuesday with Tylor Megill and Clayton Kershaw on the mound, and they left a combined 13 batters on base. I'd be awfully surprised if they don't clear 10 runs tonight.

🔥 Tony Gonsolin Over 2.5 walks allowed ⭐⭐⭐⭐

As we mentioned before, Gonsolin has been slogging through a nightmarish start to his first game action in two years. So you can imagine my surprise to see our best sports betting sites dealing such a generous number for his walks total.

Gonsolin hasn't lost anything off his heater, which is actually a tick higher than it was in 2023, but his control has been problematic to say the least. He's walking 4.4 batters per nine innings and has issued at least three free passes in three consecutive games; he allowed exactly two walks in the two starts before that.

The Dodgers righty ranks in the eighth percentile in opponent chase rate (23%), while the Mets chase at MLB's third-lowest rate (26%) while boasting baseball's sixth-best walk rate (9.5%). If Los Angeles gives Gonsolin a long enough leash tonight, I'd expect him to clear this plus-money prop with ease.
