Astros vs. Phillies Same Game Parlay Picks, Predictions World Series Game 3

Top MLB same-game parlay picks for Game 3 of the World Series between the Astros and Phillies on October 31.

With the World Series knotted at a game apiece, how will the shift from Houston to Philadelphia impact both sides for Game 3? Here are our Astros-Phillies same-game parlay picks.

Though the Philadelphia Phillies gave it their all in Game 2, taking two straight from the Astros in Houston to open the World Series was a pipe dream.

Now, things get interesting as the Phillies look to make good on their opportunity after swiping the home-field advantage.

Here are my MLB same-game parlay picks and predictions for Monday’s World Series Game 3 between the Astros and Phillies (odds via FanDuel Sportsbook; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

UPDATE: Game 3 of the World Series was postponed due to inclement weather and will be played Tuesday, Nov. 1.

Same-Game Parlay Predictions For Astros vs. Phillies

Astros -1.5 (+132) ★★★

With the day off Sunday, both bullpens should be rested heading into Monday’s Game 3. As the Astros and Phillies get deeper into their rotations, one side emerges with an evident advantage on Monday.

Philadelphia’s starter, Noah Syndergaard, has been used in shorter bursts throughout these playoffs, so it’s difficult to imagine that Rob Thomson is going to let him ride it out in Game 3. That means Philadelphia will likely rely heavily upon a bullpen that has been the most utilized of any throughout these playoffs.

In 115 innings, Phillies’ relievers have compiled a respectable 3.29 ERA during October, but this was a group during the regular season that held the worst ERA of any bullpen on a playoff team.

The advantage for Astros hitters digging into the Philadelphia bullpen is notable compared to capable starter Lance McCullers Jr.

McCullers should get through five or so innings before turning things over to a Houston bullpen that boasts a 2.18 ERA this postseason. Houston has gone 47-37 in covering on the run line in road games this season and sets up to see its offense carry the load in Game 3.

McCullers Under 5.5 strikeouts (-148) ★★★★

The Phillies' lineup fanned nine times against electric lefty Framber Valdez in Game 2 on Saturday, but Philadelphia struck out only five times across five innings against right-hander Justin Verlander in Game 1.

McCullers, a righty, is not quite as prolific a strikeout pitcher as Verlander. The Phillies' lineup was middle-of-the-pick in strikeouts per game during the season and was better at home by nearly half a K per game. McCullers has cleared this line in both postseason starts this month, but with a rested bullpen in a World Series environment, Dusty Baker should be quicker with the hook than in previous rounds if his starter begins to labor.

When facing the Phillies in his final regular-season outing on Oct. 3, McCullers went six innings while striking out five batters.

Stott to record a hit (-130) ★★★

It’s a small sample, but Phillies shortstop Bryson Stott is a perfect 2-for-2 against Lance McCullers in his career, notching a single and a double against Houston’s Game 3 starter.

Though Stott has no hits in this World Series, he’s reached base via walk three times and had a three-game hitting streak coming into the Fall Classic.

Backup shortstop Edmundo Sosa has never faced McCullers, so it would stand to reason that Rob Thomson would get Stott into the lineup given his success against the Astros righty.

Though Stott will likely bat near the bottom of the lineup, that is reflected in his -130 odds of recording a hit - he sits third from the bottom of the FanDuel odds list in terms of likelihood.

The return on that investment provides a nice boost to our parlay without needing anything other than a simple base knock to cash it.
