It’s surprising to see the Badgers continue to be favored in this one, considering Mertz started every single game for them this season. While he was far from great, he was the best choice Wisconsin had, and the Badgers seem to be getting a little too much credit with a backup quarterback taking over.
Perhaps bettors just are not confident at all in Sanders’ backup Garret Rangel. Rangel completed passes in two games this season, and the Cowboys failed to score in the 20s in either of those games.
With both quarterbacks out, it’s hard to completely trust either side because there will probably be plenty of mistakes. Yet, the Under offers a lot of value. As already stated, the Cowboys struggled to score without Sanders, and down the stretch, they struggled to score even with him.
The Badgers are averaging just 26.5 points per game, and they're allowing 20.5. They have held their last five opponents to 24 or fewer points. With Rangel, it’s very unlikely the Cowboys will end that streak. And without Mertz, it’s just as doubtful the Badgers will be able to take advantage of a defense allowing 29.3 points per game.
