Ohio State vs. USC Same Game Parlay: SGP Picks for Oct. 31

Ohio State ventures into the unknown following the injury to Julian Sayin, so can the Buckeyes’ defense lead them to victory?

My Ohio State vs. USC same-game parlay sees No. 2 Ohio State working through the challenge of losing QB Julian Sayin to injury. The Buckeyes may have to win ugly against USC, but I question whether USC is built for this matchup.

The action kicks off from L.A. Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET (NBC). Ohio State is a 6.5-point betting favorite as part of our College Football predictions.

Best Ohio State vs. USC SGP & parlay picks

Ohio State -6.5 (-115)

I simply don’t view USC (2-6 ATS) as a team capable of competing in the trenches with Ohio State (5-2 ATS).

Though the Buckeyes will be working in a new quarterback, his identity doesn’t matter much to me. Wisconsin laid down the blueprint last week, beating USC 24-7 with just 58 passing yards to its name.

I look for Ohio State to establish itself as the more physical team as USC’s 93rd-ranked adjusted defensive efficiency prevents the Trojans from being competitive in this spot.

Under 51.5 (-108)

The idea that Ohio State might lean more on its rushing attack to take pressure off whichever backup quarterback gets the nod could lead to extended possessions that suppress the overall scoring environment of the contest.

This matches the style of football that Ryan Day’s team has played on the road this season, with Ohio State road games going 0-3 on Overs to this point.

Bo Jackson 90+ rushing yards (-117)

Though an offensive identity of ‘get the ball to Jeremiah Smith’ would probably still serve Ohio State in this matchup, I don’t know the extent to which the passing game can retain its shape with a new quarterback.

This strikes me as an opportunity for Bo Jackson, whose rushing lines are elevated beyond the scope of his typical production to suggest the market is aligned with that thought process. It doesn’t scare me away, though, as our expected positive game script correlates nicely with a big day for the sophomore running back. In his lone game this year with 20+ carries, Jackson cleared 100 rushing yards.
