The winner of this huge early season non-conference tilt is likely next week’s top ranked team in the AP poll as No. 4 Texas hosts No. 1 Ohio State, and my Ohio State vs. Texas prediction expects the Longhorns to get revenge for losses in each of the last two seasons to the Buckeyes.

Along with expecting the Longhorns to cover as 1.5-point betting favorites, I’m adding a play on their stud wide receiver to score a touchdown to our college football Week 2 predictions. Kickoff from DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ABC).

💰 Ohio State vs. Texas prediction & best bet

Texas -1.5 (-110)

Arch Manning is a different quarterback than the one Ohio State bottled up last season. He finished with an FBS-best 93 Total QBR after Week 9 and ranked in the top 15 in FBS in passing and rushing touchdowns and touchdown-to-interception ratio over the final 10 games.

These improved statistics didn’t come against a cupcake schedule. Texas played two teams that made the CFP (Georgia and Texas A&M) and two other teams that finished ranked (Vanderbilt and Michigan) in that span. Ohio State will miss its three defenders that were picked in the top 11 of the NFL Draft.

Score prediction: Texas A&M 35, Arizona State 20

🙌 Ohio State vs. Texas touchdown scorer prediction

Cam Coleman to score a touchdown (+130)

Manning’s improvement when under pressure is a big reason why I expect him to connect with Cam Coleman. Manning ranks in the top 25 in yards per completion, passing success rate, and yards per dropback in the last six games when facing pressure. In that span, he has cut his sack rate down to 10.2% from 17.1% in that split.

Texas averaged 137.8 rushing yards per game last year, the lowest by any team under Steve Sarkisian. I expect a heavy dose of passing, while Coleman builds off of last week’s two receiving scores.

🚀 Ohio State vs. Texas same-game parlay

Since the start of the 2023 season, Texas has won 20 of 21 home games, with 17 of those wins coming by at least 14 points. That is a difficult trend to ignore, and I expect a Longhorns cover to come in a shootout relative to last year’s 14-7 defensive slugfest where both quarterbacks were playing in their first huge game (Manning specifically was making his first true road start).
