Best college football bets this week
SMU -5.5 (-118 via FanDuel)
SMU’s chances of clinching a spot in the ACC Championship Game took a hit with a 30-27 road loss at Syracuse last weekend. But the Orange are 3-0 at home under head coach Fran Brown, and the Mustangs ran into a Syracuse team that has found its groove on offense over the last several weeks.
The Mustangs still entered last week 18-3 in ACC play since joining the conference in 2024, which was the most of any team in the league in that span. And Virginia Tech hasn’t seen a quarterback as explosive as Kevin Jennings through eight games. He leads the nation in career passing yards and total yards and is one of nine active FBS quarterbacks with 10,000-plus yards of total offense.
In Virginia Tech’s two losses this year, it allowed five sacks and 14 combined tackles for loss. That doesn’t bode well when facing a Mustangs defense that entered Week 9 with an FBS-best 145 sacks since 2023, while holding opponents to the fourth-lowest third-down conversion rate this year.

Alabama team total Under 23.5 (-115 via DraftKings)
LSU had a bye week to prepare for Keelon Russell, two weeks after holding Auburn to 17 points and quarterback Byrum Brown to a then season-low 20 rushing yards on 19 carries.
LSU should have a big advantage in the trenches, with its defense ranking third in Havoc rate and facing an Alabama offense that ranks outside the top 110 in Havoc allowed. The Tigers are also built to negate Russell’s biggest strength in the deep ball as they rank second in Pass EPA allowed.
If LSU can shut down Alabama’s running game, Russell has shown he is not as effective when he cannot rely on play-action passes. In the Crimson Tide’s last game against Texas A&M, Russell completed 10-of-12 passes off of play action for 207 yards and a 3-to-0 touchdown-to-interception ratio. When he didn’t use play action, Russell was just 9-for-18 for 104 yards and a 0-to-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
Play to: Under 21.5 (-105)

Georgia-Ole Miss Over 56.5 (-110 via DraftKings)
Few quarterbacks in the country do I trust more in a big game than Ole Miss’ Trinidad Chambliss. After putting up 41 points against then-No. 24 Louisville, Chambliss entered his next game against a ranked opponent (Week 3 against LSU) with a 5-2 record, 87 Total QBR, 61% completion percentage, and 307 passing yards per game against ranked teams. He then threw for a career-high 363 yards against the Tigers, going 10-for-11 for 11.7 yards per attempt and a 2-to-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio on third down.
Georgia is coming off a game where it ran for 217 yards and 5.2 yards per carry against Florida. Not much was asked of Gunner Stockton, especially after the team built a 24-0 halftime lead. But I’m buying low on the Bulldogs offense and opposing those who will be down on Georgia after seeing Stockton’s 13-for-23 for 101 yards performance.
Play to: 57 (-110)

Texas State (+6.5 via FanDuel)
Oregon State was one of my top moneyline picks in Week 9, but it fell flat in a 38-22 road loss at Fresno State in the week's latest kickoff. Even though it returns to the friendly confines of Corvallis this week, I don’t believe I’m overreacting to that loss, as Texas State was impressive in scoring 45 points and only losing by one point on the blue turf against No. 20 Boise State.
Oregon State did almost nothing with its red zone possessions last week, scoring touchdowns on just two of seven trips. Texas State can deploy a similar bend-but-don’t-break strategy as Fresno State overcame 373 passing yards on 59 attempts from Braden Atkinson.
The Beavers should also struggle to defend Bobcats quarterback Brad Jackson’s mobility, as he led the team with 54 rushing yards last week. This is a week after Oregon State let Fresno State’s Jayden Mandal run for 34 yards and two touchdowns.
Play to: only +6.5, pass at +6 or lower
