Week 6 in college football features the first pair of Wednesday kickoffs during the 2023 season, and we're offering our best Jacksonville State-Middle Tennessee prediction based on the best college football odds.

Jacksonville State boasts a 4-1 record, suffering its sole loss on the road against Coastal Carolina. Leading the Gamecocks' offense is Malik Jackson, a running back who has contributed to his team's average of 224.4 rushing yards per game. Quarterback Logan Smothers has maintained a clean record this season, with no interceptions thrown.

In contrast, the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders have struggled with a 1-4 record, enduring two consecutive losses. In these two games, their opponents have outscored them 62-33. The offense has been plagued by eight turnovers this season, with five occurring in the last two games.

Here is our best Jacksonville State vs. Middle Tennessee prediction and our college football picks (odds via our best college football betting sites; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Jacksonville State vs. Middle Tennessee prediction: Week 6

Middle Tennessee -3.5 (-110 via DraftKings) ⭐⭐

Editor's note: DraftKings has now moved to -3, along with the rest of our best live betting sites.

Not only are the Blue Raiders favored in this game, but oddsmakers have set this spread above the key number as part of our college football predictions for Week 6. It’s very fishy considering the records of these two teams and how they have looked both offensively and defensively this season.

While the Gamecocks seem like the easy play, we’re going with the team that has faced a really daunting schedule this season. Every team the Blue Raiders have faced this year is .500 or better, and they began the season with back-to-back road games at Alabama and Missouri. Yet, they’re still averaging 361.4 yards per game, which is just 1.2 fewer than what the Gamecocks are averaging.

The Gamecocks are currently eighth in the NCAA in rushing yards per game. However, their average is very inflated because of a 295-yard rushing performance against Eastern Michigan. The Blue Raiders are allowing 140.8 yards on the ground per game, but only two teams have rushed for over 200 yards against them.

However, what this game will really come down to is turnovers. The Gamecocks are tied for 18th in the NCAA in turnover margin, while the Blue Raiders are in the bottom 10.

While this may seem like a reason to take the Gamecocks, we’re looking at it differently. Without any turnovers in Week 2, the Blue Raiders nearly beat Missouri. In each of their losses this season, they’ve turned the ball over at least twice. Against the best team they’ve faced this season, the Gamecocks forced zero turnovers and lost by 14.

Jacksonville State vs. Middle Tennessee odds analysis

The Blue Raiders opened as 4.5-point home favorites, but the line has dropped to 3.5. Bettors are split 50/50 on who they expect to cover in this game, but that hasn’t stopped oddsmakers from putting the key number in play.

As for the total, the number opened at 51.5 and that is where it has remained. There hasn’t been much action to speak of from bettors, so it’s hard to know where this line will move. It’s worth noting that three of the Gamecocks' games finished with fewer points than this total, but the same can be said for just two of the Blue Raiders’ games.
