We should see the Canes score plenty early – they averaged a staggering 8.2 yards per play versus Stanford last week – before things stall out with the backups on the field. Miami scored 42 in the first three quarters versus Stanford before getting nothing but a field goal in the fourth. 

I also like fading Miami because of clock management. Some teams are fast enough to win by 60, but Miami ranked 129th in seconds per play last year (29.7) and used a similar pace in Week 1 (29).

With wide receiver Malachi Toney (-900 at FanDuel) and running back Mark Fletcher Jr. (-425) juiced to high heaven, let’s roll with quarterback Darian Mensah to find paydirt himself. He isn’t a high-volume rusher, but he has scampered for at least one score in both of his two seasons in action.

Mensah was a positive rusher at Tulane before mostly staying in the pocket at Duke. I don’t hate his odds of finding the end zone on Thursday, especially since we’re getting him at basically coin-flip odds in a spot where Miami is projected to win by 50-plus. Look for him to cash in on a broken play or red-zone bootleg.
