Allen hasn’t played football since the 2016-17 season when he was a receiver for the Oregon Ducks. However, he put his football career on hold to chase Olympic Gold.

Allen finished fifth and fourth in the 110-meter hurdles in the past two Olympics.

Scouts took notice of Allen’s speed when he ran an unofficial 4.35-second 40-yard dash earlier this month, and the Eagles invited him for an organizational visit and ultimately signed him Friday.

Two knee injuries derailed his final two seasons with the Ducks, as Allen played just nine games. His best showing consisted of 41 receptions for 684 yards and seven touchdowns as a freshman.

It’s a particularly interesting landing spot for Allen, as Philadelphia doesn’t have a star-studded stable of receivers on the roster.

First-round selections DeVonta Smith and Jalen Reagor headline the bunch, but Reagor hasn’t lived up to expectations since being selected 21st overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. Smith did show well as a rookie last year, though.

Obviously, Allen still has a lot of work to do before he enters household-name territory.

The Eagles are definitely longshots to win the Super Bowl, but they do have the second shortest odds to win the NFC East at all four listed sportsbooks, and the 2022 NFL season remains in its infancy.

If nothing else, signing Allen will be an interesting story to watch play out, and Philadelphia is clearly adding an elite athlete to the fold.Make sure to keep an eye on our Live Odds page throughout the week to get the best lines possible and connect with others in the SBR community on our popular sports betting forum.
