Ever heard of skimmers? Restaurants are a common place for them to exist because employees don’t make a ton of money and tend move around a lot.

it may have been compromised in some other way, but that’s just one feasible example.

Just had fraud email me last night about card being used in California.

I've literally only used it at ATMs at my bank.

did the transaction go through and reduce your balance?

When I put money onto the card from my wallet I withdraw it from ATM within a few hours. I had $20 left on the card, and the attempted transaction showed as $65 and change. Then they charged the card 3 different times for insufficient funds $1, $2, $2.

I'm guessing that means they then tried to purchase stuff for smaller amounts and each time it failed.

I've used the card at the same ATM and the ATM is inside a grocery store. Never used to purchase anything else, ever. So very strange.

well with all issues best not leave much on card. add funds and withdrawal ASAP since it's an obvious hack/ breach of security

I'm beginning to wonder if this is an inside job with Bitpay??? Did someone break into their database and steal these numbers???

Like I said... I'm extremely cautious when using this card.

Not to change the subject.... but why do I get an error when using electrum wallet when trying to deposit funds to Bitpay card?

When I click "Pay In Wallet" from Bitpay's website... it goes to electrum wallet and in the "PAY TO" line... it says "please wait" and it never updates to pay Bitpay. It just freezes. I have Electrum 3.3.8

It definitely seems that way. There isnt going to be a skimmer on an ATM inside a grocery store. Just talking to them seemed weird and staged.

Another possibility is a data hack - either one that they don't know about yet or one that they haven't yet announced to the press for whatever reason.

Do cards with the chip have extra security? Surprised Bitpay doesn't have the chip.

Even my bank deb card has the chip.

the chip basically makes alot tougher for them to make cards or steal numbers I guess as each transaction has unique ID so harder for them to steal..I am no expert though but chipped cards are harder to make for sure but if they get your number via a hack and use online i would think it doesn't matter chip or not

I'm talking about a mass data hack of their servers. Your business CC example seems to be talking about a small scale, individual card hack. That was already being discussed in this thread.

Yeah seems weird. At least it didn’t mess with or change the routing/acct number to use.

about a month ago i got a weird email from fraud department that told me the last 4 digits of my card number was compromised, when you click on the link it goes blank, I researched the company and was told it was a known fraud, but Im wondering how did they know the last 4 digits of the card plus the email that was associated with the card

I don't see that error message on the Bitpay site help pages.

But I do see something similar popping up with people having problems with BitcoinCash wallets (as opposed to Bitcoin)

Does that give you any clues?

if you copy the exact error message that might help find it too?

Good idea. Guys, the Crypto.com MCO **** debit is awesome. Cash back on all purchases and the app is incredible. If you want to ACH to your bank account, then I think you're stuck using BitPay (and of course the money will be sitting on your card for 1-2 days as you wait for the ACH to go thru). But if you use other methods to spend or convert your BTC to cash, load the MCO card. That's what I think at least.

If you want to ACH to your bank account, then I think you're stuck using BitPay. But if you use other methods to spend or convert your BTC to cash, load the MCO card. That's what I think at least.
From what you have said about usability so far, this is probably a smart idea with too many Bitpay card fraud charges going on.

Can you describe the loading process for us?

I can jump in here regarding the load process, you have to send the btc to your wallet within the app.... it takes 6 confirmations before they credit to your wallet (they need to amend this to 1-3, 6 is excessive and sometimes can mean waiting hours)

Once the coin is in your wallet, you click the "card" tab in the app, and click "top up" and you enter the amount you want to add to card, and it pulls from your wallet within the app, and its credited instantly.

Yeah, the # of required confirmations is one of the few drawbacks I've seen, other than no outbound ACH withdrawals (they do accept inbound ACH deposits). I just make sure to plan accordingly and maintain my balances on the card at certain levels so they're always ready for use.

Sounds like a good idea to clear funds off the card as quickly as possible after loading.
The initial fraud charge did a pending $1.00 off your total balance.

The other 2 fraud charges (a total of 3) never went through at all. Somehow Bitpay's system knew instantly if it was fraud or not.

That $1.00 pending charge won't fall off for 30 days. It's like a pre-authorized charged.

if you use a bitpay wallet, and load the card, they will apply funds automatically for amounts under $500 as long as your balance is confirmed at least once, any amounts over $500 you have to wait until you get 1 confirmation

The crazy thing is the email I got from them said there were fraudulent charges attempted on the card in California. They sent new card, I didn't lose any money bc I had only a few bucks in the account. Now I look on my account and it showed the charges were from NY. This definitely seems more and more like an inside job. The second I load money onto it I'm going to go to the ATM down the street. I suggest nobody take any risks with this card.

If the bitpay card was chipped this would be even more a challenge for the thieves. Very strange but i read stories about how easy it is to acquire this stuff plus numbers on the dark web
