If Canbet Sports Bookmakers Ltd was wound-up then there would be an investigation by the Official Receiver into the directors' conduct as to any wrongful or fraudulent trading. However, it is currently still an active company, even though it isn't doing anything. Any creditor could lodge a petition to wind-up if owed more than £750 but this isn't cheap (at least £1,385 for the hearing, although some is refundable in certain circumstances). It is a strategy with risk as Canbet isn't known to have any assets, but then again, who thinks they would get anything from a trade sale?

I agree with Smiffy. All of us should be encouraging our online friends in the UK to contribute to the petition. Even if the monies owed are never repaid, all of us have a responsibility to do what we can to stop this scenario from playing out again.
