#1056This here is a snippet from the UK Gambling Commission's current Wikipedia entry: Controversy[edit]
The Gambling Commission has come under fire for not preventing the spread of fixed odds betting terminals (FOBT) on the high street. Considered to be as addictive as 'crack cocaine' by some, their spread is linked to the transfer of responsibility for planning permission for bookmakers moving from the Gambling Commission to local authority.
In 2014 the UK regulated online bookmaker Canbet went into receivership owing millions to customers. The demise of this site raised questions of the ability of the Commission to protect UK customers from rogue traders.

#1057Someone posted this in here a few pages back. The problem with relying on Wiki is I can go edit it right now and say I'm the head of the GC and also used to own Canbet. And I own bet365 and William Hill. As we know, Canbet is not in receivership, IGAS is. Yet whomever took it upon themselves to edit the GC's page couldn't even get that right so it just makes it look like an amateur witchhunt against the GC.Originally posted by the unheardofThis here is a snippet from the UK Gambling Commission's current Wikipedia entry: Controversy[edit]

#1059You're right it can't be relied on. I was however merely just pointing it out. Did the ABC thing earlier. Alex told me that he spoke to Peter Lord this morning and he is still adamant that "all players will be paid" I think at that point I failed to keep a straight face when he told me that but at least it shows that the heat is well and truly on him though.Originally posted by shari91Someone posted this in here a few pages back. #1064In the early days (October 13) I used to believe this shit that we were going to be paid. The software glitch was a sham and thanks to the leadership of Shari, the betting community is starting to show its strength from working together.

#1065[from JayZ]: If Canbet Sports Bookmakers Ltd was wound-up then there would be an investigation by the Official Receiver into the directors' conduct as to any wrongful or fraudulent trading. However, it is currently still an active company, even though it isn't doing anything. Any creditor could lodge a petition to wind-up if owed more than £750 but this isn't cheap (at least £1,385 for the hearing, although some is refundable in certain circumstances). It is a strategy with risk as Canbet isn't known to have any assets, but then again, who thinks they would get anything from a trade sale?
I must admit I don't have details but I did hear that an accomodation has been reached between the Centaur directors and a group representing their clients which has resulted in some proportion of the debts being repaid.
Perhaps something similar could happen with Canbet if someone was to wind them up? I personally am not owed enough though.
In what circumstances can the hearing fee be refunded?Comment -

I think it probable that Peter Lord hopes to just ride this tricky time out and hope it all goes away...

#1070It can be refunded if it turns out to be unable to pay out, but that would take some time. There is another cost which I forgot earlier - you are required to place and pay for the notice in the London Gazette, which is £55.50+VAT.Originally posted by diondublin[from JayZ]: If Canbet Sports Bookmakers Ltd was wound-up then there would be an investigation by the Official Receiver into the directors' conduct as to any wrongful or fraudulent trading. #1071I've just been to sign the e-petition but I foresee a problem even if sufficient people are persuaded to sign in that the terms and conditions are quite clear that...
"If an e-petition does not include a clear statement explaining what action you want the government to take, it will be rejected."
....and the e-petition as it stands makes no reference as to the action required whatsoever. Might I suggest that it is scrapped and replaced with a new one once an agreed wording has been reached on here? Otherwise we may be persuading people to sign it for nothing.Comment -

#1072I do agree with you CJ, however, from what I saw whilst looking at the "rejected" and "closed" petitions I assumed ours was all good and well as it hasn't already been rejected. Its been up for 10-14 days now and I'd have thought if there was a problem with it it would've already been rejected.Comment -

We will be waiting a while before we here any news.
Unlike the gambling commission, this department have teeth and will use them if they think there is any sharp practice, illegal stuff going on. But there not going to jump on a public forum, commenting before any investigation takes place.
If you have not done already, please e mail intelligence.live@insolvency.gsi.gov.uk with your complaints.Comment -

#1082Hey everyone, just found this thread.
I'm owed £1252.50 and my friend Nick is owed £627.50.
We both just did the opening account offer, £150 for £150.
Kind of written off getting any of this back now.
Hopefully something will come of this effort.
Thanks,
