Define necessary. Lines may differ a little bit at some places...

neccessary is prob the wrong word. Lemme say it like this, is there an advantage to having sn account at multiple books under the same umbrella or do most of them have the same lines etc... Also is the parent book usually the most financially stable? Or is just two completely different places that just happen to be owned by the same company?

To both questions I think its different for different places. In some cases lines differs (BM/DSI at times for instance). As far as financial stability goes, if its part of the "family" I'd guess they're all about as solid as eachother, however if they're a completely standalone skin, just using their software its a completely different situation and without any further information at hand I'd probably trust the parent company more.

Not much help, I know. You're probably best off asking/doing research about each place individually.
