#78We need to see more threads talking in depth why a team might win, not just jumping on them just because they're underdogs or because you hate the other team.
This kinda logic works a few times in the WC, the most publicly bet tourney, but if you bet regular soccer matches you know what I mean.Comment -

Brazil like many other teams show up when they have to.
Brazil will show up vs Netherlands in the QF.

Personally I think Brazil has the easiest road facing the ghana-Uruguay winner if they can get past the netherlanders.

So because you picked netherlands to win it all they have the best gk left? Julio cesar is clearly better than the dutch keeper. Big deal brazil did what it was supposed to do against portugal and that was advance with the group winnnings. Holland is different in the past as they tend to sit back more. Your dreaming if you think brazil go out to the netherlands. Anyone who thinks Holland wins in 90 minutes needs to stop betting on sports period. And also DH you have already set the referee factor in case the dutch go out to blame the ref crew. The dutch had there first internal squabble when van persie was bitching about being pulled out the other day. The end is near for the nearly men. Personally i would prefer the dutch advance but i doubt i will see it happen.Comment -

#88Some real nice debate/analysis in this thread for both sides.
I really like this Brazil team. I would agree it's the best 'team' they've put out there in some time. Not from a talent standpoint, but their 'team' as a whole. I think Brazil's defense is really not given the credit that they deserve, either. Cesar isn't too shabby in net, either (probably the best keeper, to me, still in the tourney).
I think Brazil has a good chance of slowing down the Dutch attack because they're athletic enough and quick enough to slow down the interior runs. They're also physical enough - meaning the Dutch might have to score off of set pieces, which makes things just a crap shoot.
The key in this game is the Netherlands ability to control the ball and perhaps get Brazil off their game. You could see Brazil slowing down as the game progressed vs Portugal, although, they were missing Kaka - who despite being a touch slower - is still a valuable man in the midfield. Granted, Brazil didn't need the game and it was meaningless anyway - they were much different than in previous games and were hotdogging it a bit and not making as many runs as normal. The Dutch are so good at controlling the ball, but their athleticism and toughness should really be put to the test. The Netherlands have to be slick moving the ball around and frustrate Brazil's overconfidence that they can just swoop in and regain the ball... Like they've done to pretty much everyone.
I can see a 1-1 regular time draw.. That's what my gut says - and then it's up in the air. But somehow, I just think Brazil will find a way to win and move on. I normally don't like Brazil in big knockout games, but I think Dunga has prepared this team to be a lot stronger in this situation, and that's why I favor them slightly.Comment -

#93Brazil to win in 90' + stoppage time -104 @ 5dimes.
I think that is very generous. They rolled over Chile with ease and I don't think we have seen their best form yet. They could easily win this game by two goals and -1.5 is +280.
Hollands defense has not been tested. So far they have played Denmark, Cameroon, Japan and Slovakia. Not exactly offensive powerhouses. Brazil's front three look a class apart. I cannot back Heitinga and Mathijisen when they are up agasint Kaka, Robinho and Fabiano.Comment -

#95I see the Netherlands forcing the action heavily in the first ten to fifteen minutes in an attempt to get 1 and possibly two goals. I believe Van Marjwik has played conservatively thus far for a reason. He realizes his team, on talent alone, would get to the quarters. I'm sure he surmised his opponent would be Brazil also.
By going against prior playing behavior in previous matches he hopes to catch Brazil off guard with an all out attack. This could reap huge dividends or blow up in his face. I see the first upset of World Cup 2010. 3-2 Netherlands.Comment -

#98I think you are underestimating The Dutch attack big time. Robben on the wing is a big problem for either Bastos or Alves- and Maicon needs to be careful at the RB to just play his position and stop taking shots on net- the Dutch will burn him on the counter. They want Maicon to play like he normally plays. It's very possible that he falls right into their trap. Neth defense is very susceptable.Originally posted by WilforthBrazil 2-0 Netherlands That's the result.

#100Brazil has trouble vs European teams in the knock out stages. Look at Robinho and Kaka. They are worthless when they play in Europe. Robinho can't even score in England and Kaka was dominated by the other Euro players in Champions League. I would gladly back up a team that has players playing for Arsenal, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan than the unproven players of Brazil. Just like last World Cup they crashed out to France this time they will crash out to the Dutch.Comment -

#101France has historically owned brazil (1998/1986/2010) . Brazils team in style is very similar to the one they brought to USA 94. They are happy to win 1-0. That 94 team had Dunga as captain and played the same shitty boring game this one does. They also had defenders like Marcio Santos and Aldair that were average but got the job done. The dutch have some great talents and will give brazil some problems for sure but they better amp their game up to beat Brazil. As for Brazil haivng problems with european teams i see they have only lost to france and italy in a world cup elimination game since 1978 and won or drew every other one of the 13 games including 2 versus holland.Comment -

Robinho wanted to leave Man Citeh. Kaka was on a new team that has a recent history of under preforming in the Champions League. There was only one reason Brazil crashed out to France in WC2006: Zidane. There's no player on Holland anywhere near his standard of play.
Unproven Players of Brazil? I'm sorry but that's a joke right?Comment
