I've tried all three and found it has the best real-time protection out of them...Microsoft Security Essentials is also a solid choice.

Avira free doesn't even have real-time web scanning...paid version is solid but i'm talking free here. And Avast dumps on AVG in all areas.

Roll back Flash. See my first post for link on how to do it.

Mine was crashing like crazy too. All is fine on 10.3.

I would go ahead and delete all that. If it doesn't delete, leave it quarantined.

Was your AVG up to date? It should of caught that sh!t.
Did you ever run the Rootkit scan in AVG? It is suppose to be a good one.
lmfao apparently lots of dirty places.

was able to delete all those quarantined items in mbytes thankfully.

only updated avg to 2012 once the problem started, so i guess the old avg version wasn't good enough.

now currently running a full scan with SUPERAnti - it's already detected 194 Items that all reside under the title 'Adware.Tracking Cookie'.. will be interesting to see what else it uncovers once the scan is done.

Firefox was stable until Adobe Flash updated to 11.3. The two don't seem to get along. So going back to 10.3 made it stable again.

Thanks for your feedback and opinions.

I haven't had a problem with AVG since going to it a few months back.

I'm sure this is just another story though.

thx again onlooker, things still seem to be running better.

however - even after running mbytes and SUPERAnti yesterday and deleting all problems, i'm still getting tons of file-related (not registry) 'Adware.Tracking Cookie' bugs today when running more quick scans. my privacy setting in ff 14 seems to be fine (the 'do not track' box is checked), what else could be wrong? is there a different security setting in ff that i've missed?

I have accept Cookies only until I close Firefox (instead of when they expire). Private Browsing Mode is also another option.

I'll guide you when I get home. I do the same, but I also have the cache clear on close also.

Just be prepared to log-in at every site that requires you too. You won't stay logged in after closing the browser.

Go to your Privacy Tab in the Options Menu. Click on the drop-down and select "Use custom settings for history". You will then see all the selectable options for different things. Where you see "Keep until:" click on the drop-down and select "I close Firefox".

To customize even more, check the box by "Clear history when Firefox closes", then click on the "Settings" button. You will see the following window with different things to select. Select what you want to clear when you close Firefox. I have it clear out Cookies and Cache.

Read this about the privacy area of Firefox: http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/...y-do-not-track

                                    Options, Preferences and Settings: http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/...s-and-settings

                                    Disable Third-Party Cookies: http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/...-party-cookies

Some tracking cookies are third-party cookies, so disabling it could help minimize them, but not all. Also, some of the normal safe sites use third-party cookies/tracking cookies and turning them off could cause problems with those sites.

It sucks, but we need Cookies to surf the web normally. So just having all cookies clear when closing out Firefox will keep all Cookies from staying on your computer. Malware cleaners get them Tracking ones off too.
