The best thing you can do is exercise or get a job. Lose some weight and start eating healthier. This will also help you with your sleeping problems. The MMA idea is a great one. They will give you the discipline you need and help you on a path to a healthier life.

Good luck to you. Can't offer much advice because nothing I heard worked for me but I never gave it much of a chance. Been to detoxes and rehab but you really have to work at it. Doesn't sound like it's terrible for you yet but you're on the way and it can and will get a lot worse and difficult to control.Comment -

Good move, you don't want to get on pills that create more problems than they solve. So many suicides because of SSRI's and other medications for depression, bipolar disorder, etc. Gotta learn to deal with it on your own.Thanks for the input.
I did go to 2 separate AA meetings. I found them both to be kind of a joke to me. I just can't relate to the 40-50-60 year old people. I understand that they can relate to me. But it's not a two way train. I also realize that, YES, that is where I WILL be if I don't stop.
The reason I never went further with my treatment for my manic-depressive disorder is because I refused to. I'm not one to take medicine that I don't think I need. To be honest, I still don't think I necessarily need medication to control my depression. Something, however, needs to be done about my drinking, I know this.Comment -
Yep! Thanks guys. Well, I went out to the bar tonight with my friend because his dad (a big drinker) went out to celebrate a victory on their softball team. I ended up having 2 beers and decided it was much more worth coming home and looking over my take home exam, making it perfect, rather than staying out and drinking with them! I know a lot of you may feel like you're not helping. I also know a lot of you guys are thread crapping. It's the nature of human beings and I accept that. @ warriorfan707, This topic has come up numerous times, I also think this is the second time you've mentioned it, I don't enjoy smoking weed. When I was 15-17 I smoked weed every day. I stopped when I turned 18 and never looked back. It was just the same boring crap, over and over. I slept, ate, and sat on a couch watching the same movies every day. Weed is not an option.Comment -

You already made the first move to a better life, im originally from the Minneapolis area.. Drinking up in that area is pretty much a sport.. Im glad you are already thinking about it, most of my friends i left behind when i moved to florida, theyre still living their lives day to day (and bar to bar).. Been sober for over a year.
Lost a fair amount of weight, still not skinny by any means, but I'm looking better.
I have a girlfriend.
(Actually considering proposing soon.)
I have a good job.
I still do live in my parent's house, but I am working on getting a little more money from my job and should be moving out.
