There are a myriad of reasons we have a lot more perceived unhappiness and mental illness in the western world

I don't think "choices" per se is at the top of the list

I would rank the hyper contextualization comparison and competitive society that we have become via social media.

people grow up with ingrained FOMO and inferiority because they know what their REAL life looks and feels like and the compare it to the fake lives in entertainment and their "friends" on social media portray.



Happiness is pretty much a stable and consistent thing as biological beings, we will CREATE or synthesize happiness even in shitty circumstances like jail.

Miserable people will also find ways to perceive unhappiness in amazing situations.

I have Prostate cancer, I've had congestive heart failure (several times), I have stage 3 kidney disease, Diabetic eye disease, and lost part if my right foot due to Diabetes.....happy to be able to shoot my AR's and play with a few young ladies.

All I am working towards is the eventual cabin, high acreage life in the middle of freaking nowhere. I'm about 30% of the way there and should be at 100% in no more than 15 years. Enough to not have to worry about cash due to reduced living expenses, a low 5 figure bankroll to gamble with (which should last me 20+ years on 50 dollar units), my wife, a dog, a garden and a gun.

Too many people trying to retire to maintain the lifestyle they have. Screw that. Give me a little place to live and get away from the noise of this strange world. Let me observe from afar.
