And if a driver over .05 kills someone, the charge will be criminal homicide.

Was in Utah a few weeks ago for a layover. Their local brew is crappy watered down toilet water, not even regular percentage of normal beer.

Utah very strict liquor laws
1am close
3.2 beer at C Stores and Grocery
State controls distribution of everything
I find it interesting that we continue to clamp down on tobacco and alcohol but expand pot
Where are the pot penalties or texting/ driving penalties
Stupid law...unequal protection and punishment
Id challenge it in court

Oregon is talking about going to .05 as well. I get it that drunk driving kills and agree we need laws against it but think this is not the right approach. The guy driving home after dinner who had 2 beers is not the same guy out killing people. The guy killing people was at the bar all night and blows a .22 BAC. I worked bars for years and have seen my share of DUIs, accidents and even deaths. Lowering to .05 just targets the wrong crowd.

It only punishes responsible law abiding citizens and of course restaurant owners
Drunks will drink and drive regardless of the law
Functional drunks will repeat the behavior indefinitely
But mom and dad aren't going to order a second beer or glass of wine now and that's going to hurt business

I went to Salt Lake City/Park City in May, they definitely have some weird laws regarding alcohol. We went to a restaurant/bar for lunch and they had to see our IDs before we could walk in the door - my wife and I are 30 and 32. I think as long as there is a bar in the establishment you have to be 21 to go in at all times, or something like that at least. If i remember right, the waiter we had said the beers on tap were pretty weak because they have a limit on alcohol content that can be served from tap. We stopped at a Target to get some drinks for the hotel and they only had beer, no wine or anything else. Just send like overkill.

Don't forget the Zion drapes
Children are not allowed to see booze at a restaurant, so any drink must be made behibd the bar or in back of a curtain
Very odd but also homage to States rights and the diversity of our Country

yup, and you can't just order booze, you HAVE to order food at restaurants that serve alcohol...I was out there like 2 years ago for a work conference, co-worker and walk down from the hotel after dinner to a 'wing joint' to grab a couple beers, we order beers start drinking and the server's like so what food you want to order? we're like we don't want food, "you have to order something" ohhh thanks for telling us that before we started drinking our beer you jerkoff, I just ate a $60 prime rib dinner 30 minutes ago at the hotel...ordered fries and gave them to the waitress lol

I lived in Dubai. You can get a license to buy liquor at a state-owned store. You can also buy it at a hotel bar.
But you're right about zero tolerance while driving under the influence. Even a little bit is illegal. I didn't have a car. My company paid me to take taxis everywhere.

I lived there as well. Crazy laws they have...I still think Utah takes the cake on this one with their unreal booze laws.

I used to hang out with Harold Smith when I was there. He was a former Muhammad Ali promoter who got me a couple hookers. I googled his name and sure enough, it was him. The problem was that he embezzled a whole bunch of cash from his entertainment business. I think that is why he was living in Dubai, because the US doesn't have any extradition treaties with them.
If you search for his name you can see his embezzlement problems along with some people who lived in Dubai who got shafted by him. He was the nicest guy to me.
