The fact people can still randomly steal planes 17 years after 9-11 should concern a lot of people

You can't do much to prevent this, if an employee with access wants to do something what would you suggest. What if a pilot in the middle of a route takes a nose dive? Some things will always be a risk.

did he crash or did the fighters following him go "Flight 93" on him and blast him outta the sky?

How in the hell did he know how to fly it?

                        “I’ve played video games.”

Then he proceeded to do loops and all sorts of maneuvers.

                        Legendary.

                            That audio is amazing.

This guy just having a conversation, asking questions, they are helping him with the aircraft, he's totally bullshitting with them.

"If I land this thing you think they would give me a job as a pilot?"

"I want the coordinates of the momma orca with the baby, I wanna go see that guy."

                            Unreal.

This has got to be a first.

He says he's attempting a barrel roll.

Then says his engine might be going out.

Wonder if he stalled the engine rolling & crashed.

                                Guy is legendary.

                                Hope no one copycats this.

This guy decided he had enough.

So he stole a plane from the company that paid him minimum wage (need to verify this), trolled aircraft control, and then crashed the thing after performing a series of loops and barrel rolls.

When asked how he knew how to fly he said he knew some stuff because he played video games.

There are so many things this guy did that defied all odds.

                                  Unreal.

A video posted to Russell's amateur travel blog in December 2017 provides an intimate view into his life as a grounds service agent for Horizon Airlines, a job that consisted primarily of loading and unloading luggage, paying only $13.75 per hour.
'Hi, I'm Beebo Russell and I'm a grounds service agent. That means, I lift a lot of bags. Like, a lot of bags. So many bags,' he narrates over back-to-back clips of suitcases being loaded on and off of airplanes as a lighthearted tune plays in the background

For anyone commenting about the video games. The flight simulators are literally exactly like you are controlling/flying the plane. You need thousands of hours of game time to understand what you are doing especially flying certain types of planes. He would have been able to land with more experience but it's obvious he knew something if he was able to do tricks mid-air and get the plane off on takeoff. Impressive. He wanted to kill himself and went out in a legendary way to say the least.

I get it. I’ve seen some of the simulators too.

With that said, playing a few hours at home on your home pc or on Xbox is a lot different than stealing a commercial plane and taking off from a large airport.

                                            It’s pretty astonishing.

There is a reason pilots goto school, spend hours practicing with an instructor, and have to obtain a license.

You think pilots are going to go out there and move these planes around all the time.

Mechanics need access for sure, but not so sure a baggage handler should be given the "keys."

But the bottom line is that the handler is needed on the tarmac, even if he doesn't need to fire the plane up.

Inside jobs are tougher and tougher to prevent.

Maybe an onstar style kill switch so he can't get off the ground? lolol

That’s pretty much impossible....bro. Do you have any idea how many people need access the plane for various reasons?

I think the problem was that they left one person alone unsupervised.

I’m sure they’ll revise their procedures so that one person won’t be on the plane unsupervised.

Even then, you can’t really prevent everything. A pilot could just as easily crash a plane.

In reality, it’s probably more likely that a pilot would do this then some baggage handler.

The pilot killed everyone on the Germanwings flight and I’m fairly certain that’s what happened with the disappearance of MH370 in Malaysia.
