Life life so as to die with no regrets...whatever that means... Lol...so cliche...I wrote that in a paper in high school or college. I was deathly afraid of growing old and having regrets. Now I am growing old and have countless regrets!!
Do not purchase non-necessities on credit.
Try to spend as much time as possible in the "real world." I.e., .limit your technology as much as possible.
I guess that is 3, but one more....travel as much as you can when you are young. You don't have to go to Paris and stay in five star hotels, but seeing the world, or even the country, you will not regret.

Get a degree or work harder than everyone else.
Never pass on opportunities.
Be a friend to even those who hate you.
If you win, help others to win as well.
Never forget that others have sacrificed for you.
If you find yourself lost , never forget someone upstairs is looking out for you.

At that point it's too late, the kid is already on track to whatever life they're going to lead. 13-14, you tell them education is important, whether that be a learning a trade or going to college.

Internetz certification/Trades much preferred.
Machinist/Welder/Plumber good choices. The important part is getting the OT pay, as opposed to getting lied to about stock options.
