I switched from finish carpenter to coffee farmer.

Was a carpenter for 25 years and a few years back decided to clear a 10 acre parcel here in Kona and plant coffee. I dig it. Work my ass off from September through February but from March through August only a few days per month.

How can you learn how to be a coffee farmer?

Kona coffee is a big deal over here so there is no shortage of farmers willing to give advice and lend a hand. Plus I have family going way back that married into coffee farming families so my transition was fairly easy. Couple that with the fact that most plants in Hawaii grow very well naturally and coffee is a low maintenance tree, even a novice like me can get it to harvest!

Farmer. I'd buy land and raise and slaughter chickens, have hens and ducks for eggs. Goats are a must. I'd stay away from cattle, maybe one for milk, but from a financial perspective, they're a terrible investment for the money required to keep them healthy and slaughtering them. Plant blueberry bushes, have vegetable garden and preferably I'd have a creek run across my land that feeds into a larger river and catch Salmon out of it.

I could fully feed my family and be healthy with this and then also sell whatever we don't plan on eating as well, either to a co-op, neighbors, farmers market, etc.....

This past week I got a job opening notice for a vascular surgeon. 400k plus, plus numerous perks including housing n relocation expenses.
