#4When I was in college I went to a job fair and was at a booth for a bank - the job was going to be working as a teller/manager at those small bank branches they put in grocery stores.
One of their surprise questions was "sell me this pen". Not sure what I said but I never got a call back so I failed to leave an impression. Not sure what you are supposed to say?Comment -

okay so i get that you have to determine the pens value but how would you do that in a couple of sentences and then how would you work in the closing line?
if you fast forward to the 2 minute mark of this video Jordan Belfort talks about selling a pen and he says stuff like
How often have you been in the market for a pen?
so... you have been looking for a pen for 3 months....?
How often do you use a pen?
but my question is in this hypothetical situation how do you transition from qualifying questions to the close and make it sound smoothe?Comment -

#17Good suggestion, and Zig isn't the only one. There are many. For you Bear, so green and naive, read and internalize Tom Hopkins' "How to Master the Art of Selling."
Old school sales training at it's finest.
OR just watch the craps dealers in Vegas, boy are they good at keeping betting spots filled.

#18The genius behind "sell me this pen," is that it is designed to make a person stumble and draw a blank. Once a person stumbles and draws a blank at being able to sell a simple pen, it places them in a subordinate position to whoever is doing the selling or is billing themselves as some sort of expert. Hard to be critical of a "sales guru" when he asked you to sell a pen and you couldn't come up with jack sh*t.
I bet a lot of those multi level marketing asshats use this line all of the time on new recruits. Hate those people.Comment -
