I was at a car show a few years ago and some guy had his Porsche Carrera there and another guy about in his mid 20's and his girlfriend were taking to the guy about his Porsche and the the dude in his 20's kept calling it a "Por-sha" and was going out of his way to say it over and over again. After the guy and his girl moved along to the next car, I smiled at the owner of the Porsche and he looked at me and said "Only 2 kinds of people say Por-sha, Germans and Douchebags"

I had heard that saying before, but it was funny coming from a Porsche owner.

Food portions in the US are ridiculous though. I split almost every meal with my wife. I feel like I have blue hair doing it, but I'm just not going to cram 1200 calories plus booze down my throat in a sitting.

Spitting Chinese are pretty gross. Living in an area that has a lot of tourists, I see it all. Here's the truth: every country has fat rude people who talk too loud and don't observe local customs like tipping.

i don't get it. Por-sha is the correct way to say it. It's the guy's name.

I know, but Americans for some reason just don't say it that way, and if you do, you are frowned upon. Americans just don't give a shit.

I know a guy getting ready to drop $130K on a new Panamera(ugly car IMO) and he refuses to say "Por-sha"

Only one way to pronounce it: short O like in Johnny, short, not really rolling R, voiceless SH, E like in Ave Maria.
I hate the way Janis Joplin said it... Same goes for Mercedes etc. It's a personal name for fukks sake, there is no other way to pronounce it.

I hate when people call a BMW a Bimmer. Ziz, do they use that term in Germany?

I know the history behind the term, but I just never cared for it.

Fukk, I studied science oft languages and I can't remember the correct IPA now... Closest you can get (until I can look the IPA up) would be: Pawshe (E like in her, not like in she).

While you are there, ask someone how Gallardo is pronounced. I've heard it said about a dozen different ways.

Well, actually some guys from Bavaria say it, but few of them. But outside of Bavaria nobody would ever say that. But what you hear quite often is Benz instead of Mercedes.

Foreigners love the us more than they love to say they hate it. The only true measure is their vacationing in our country and their consumption of our news, goods, and services.

That one is easy. Gallardo is Spanish, Murcielago as well btw (yeah, not Italian) and is pronounced Ga:jardo. Gallardo is a Spanish fighting bull (one of five main races) and Francisco Gallardo was the breeder of this race and the Lamborghini is named after him.

Gallardo is a Spanish fighting bull (one of five main races) and Francisco Gallardo was the breeder of this race and the Lamborghini is named after him.

Huracán was the name of a Spanish fighting bull in 1879 who won every fight he had, no Matador was able to beat him. Name is easy, don't speak the H at all. U is pronounced like in Boo not like you. Slightly rolling R, but not much. First a is short, last like in Oliver Kahn.
