The more the clippers win...the more they are still lining the pockets of sterling since any sale of the team will take until the offseason. Being locked out of the league and banned doesnt mean he still isnt the owner for the time being.

So should I be pulling for or against the Clippers? If I pull for them and they win it all media will just run fluff stories about how this team overcame racist and hatred to win it all, and will be made a movie some day. If they lose then the media will blame it on how the racism and hate hurt them so hard they lost.
The Politically Correct Crowd is sure gleefully picking the carcass of Donald Stirling:

Wrote Michael Powell of Sterling: He stands “exposed as a gargoyle, disgorging racial and sexual animosities so atavistic as to take the breath away.”
Finally getting his breath back, Powell went on:
“The Clippers players and coaches are no doubt mortified to have awakened in the midst of a playoff run to find that they are working for the Bull Connor of Southern California.”

Is America still a serious country?

So this bitch records him... and provokes him. Everything recorded in private... but it becomes public material?

You happen to be an owner of a team in which has multi races... and ethnic backgrounds... and with "said material" it now becomes PUBLIC and the commissioner forces you to sell your team.

Ladies and gentlemen... the commissioner can't force you to do this for numerous valid reasons.

Not only did Adam Silver take this ban personally... it seems like he's trying to make a name for himself.

What really is the big deal about this? Because Donald Sterling verbally said something about a black person? That he made a gesture that "he owns you". Um.... where did he lie? In that statement... that was a racist remark? Are we all that damn sensitive now?

Hey Chris Paul... I hate to tell you man... but I do pay you millions of dollars. You did sign the contract... I technically own you. You don't like it? Then leave. Wait... that's being a racist? No, it's not being a racist. You work for him... in a way he does own you.

The sensitivity in our society is remarkable. You're a pro athlete... you make millions of dollars... but when someone makes private comments... that were provoked... we all have to form unions and take stands etc to backlash these said comments. Unreal.

Hey posters at SBR... do you work for someone that is a different race? Do you like what they do to you 24/7? No... I'm sure most of us don't like our bosses. But in a way... you are owned. That's why you work. You work for the money to provide for yourself and your family. Let me guess... you don't like the way I'm wording this? But am I wrong? We're all owned in one way or another. I'm sure you've been in many situations in which you despised your boss. Why do you work for him for? You don't have to. Find another job.

My point is very simple... the NBA commissioner made the hugest mistake ever. Donald Sterling can sue for many reasons because of these private comments that were made public. Donald Sterling isn't a dirty man. We've all said things that we never wanted the public to hear. That's why freedom of speech protects us. You mean to tell me that an owner never wanted a GAY to play for his team? I bet anyone a million dollars that someone has said this before... an owner... but it just never made it to the public ears. An owner... is an owner. They have leverage... it's a part of life. You don't like it... don't work for me. Don't show up for work.

It's remarkable how ignorant, sensitive, and unionized our society becomes when "race" is an issue. It's really not about race. It's about personality. It just so happens that the girl Sterling was banging... was probably banging blacks and other races... ok... big deal... so he ran his mouth. We've all said things on an emotional high. That's why freedom of speech protects us. Did Donald Sterling say... Hey.. I'm going to kill that ni##$r? No he didn't. Did he ever say... he was going to harm anyone physically? No he didn't. Donald Sterling's legal team will hammer the NBA. They will hammer his ex-girlfriend.

I'm sick of everyone using the race card. It's not a "race" situation. If you're black you're black. If you're white... you're white. It is what it is. Donald Sterling was pissed off at his bitch of a girlfriend. We've all said things like that. Everyone needs to stop being so damn sensitive. If you're a pro athlete... and you make 20+ million a year stop being a damn baby because you're black and you believe Donald Sterling hurt your feelings. Why the hell did you sign the contract for if you knew he was like that... because of the rumors you heard? You did it because of the money! You aren't stupid. Making millions of dollars and crying because of a racist remark. Grow the fuk up all of you pro athletes. Stop wetting the bed.

All of you people who work for a boss you don't like. Don't pull the race card. Quit. Yes, you are owned. We are all owned. You don't like it... then become an owner. Become a boss. Don't be an f'ing cry baby.

Can't wait until Sterling counters all of this... and shoves it right up the NBA's a$$.
I hate the bitch too, hate her more than I hate Sterling. Let me guess, you're white? Do you seriously think "blacks should be excluded from basketball games because of their skin color" not to be a racist comment? Sucks for him his private comments were potentially illegally made public, but they were and he has to face the music.

"The First Amendment states, in relevant part, that: “Congress shall make no law...abridging freedom of speech.”"

Silver is a lawyer dude, he knows more about freedom of speech than you do. Sterling was not arrested nor broke any laws, so that should be the end of the freedom of speech discussion. Sterling is part of a contract, or legal agreement. The question is does the nba constitution cover the actions levied against Sterling for his infractions? Not sure how things will turn up in court, but Silver is a veteran lawyer running a multi billion dollar business so I think he knows what he's doing and not acting out of some desire to make a name for himself.

This isn't about the players being angry, it's about money. Is it so hard to see why having a publicly known racist owner can hurt profits and cost the clippers/nba millions of dollars?

Agreed, a black person is in fact black, and a white person is white. Hard to refute that. What is your point? This is the society we live in. We've seen people step down and resign in businesses all the time when private things come to light which offends the public. Gotta keep the public happy to bring in the dough.

That's what people like me are upset about

It wouldn't make it to the courts here either, but the mass media over here has established a much more powerful, penalizing form of justice for people that don't agree with them. They execute a smear campaign that punishes the target much more than the courts ever could.

For a recent example, if you haven't heard of her, look up Paula Dean. The woman was a very successful businesswoman, with products in stores like Wal-Mart. After admitting she said the "n" word over 20 years ago, the media went after her and her products were pulled from many stores. This was for something said over 20 years ago. Of course then they scoured former employees to try and find other instances of monster behavior, but I wonder what very successful businessperson wouldn't have some resentful people in their past.

Since a lot of people disagree with her use of a word, or what Sterling said, they can't see the bigger problem of a bullying, controlling mass media. They can't understand that the same thing could happen to them if they happened to disagree with something mass media was pushing, because they're sheep.

I wouldn't use the word smear campaign, the media is just reporting whatever stories sell. Don't blame the media that Paula Deen used the n-word and it got out. Businesses and sponsors have to protect their business and cut ties with controversial people or it could hurt profits. I agree it's a little ridiculous this has to be done for something so little, but why expose yourself to risk of public outcry by having those ties if you're running a business? Also if you looked up Paula Dean, you will see the scandal has been lucrative for her.

It's a smear campaign because they pick and choose who they target. There are countless minority or liberal offenders to which nothing happens.

Also, I simply don't trust the Huffington Post for accurate reports. A quick look at that link was enough to see they were talking about sales of a book. That pales in comparison to all her products being removed from Wal Marts

You're right, didn't realize how much money she got from other sources. Looks like she got hammered by the scandal, I was completely wrong.

Don't know much about Paula Deen to be honest with you, maybe her story shouldn't be big news. Looks like she will be okay though.

You're wrong from a league-wide, financial and leverage perspective. Sterling has no leverage and Silver/NBA has it all. Could Sterling sue and drag it through the courts? Maybe. But he loses even by winning through that route. Silver knows it. The NBA knows it. And Sterling either knows it or will know it.

Sterling can't win by fighting the inevitable here, like it or not. He just can't.

And whether you like it or not, Silver had to do this if for no other reason than to keep the peace and keep the league together. Again, maybe you hate it, but it's reality. He may have done what he did because he truly believes it. But even if he didn't, he did what he had to do from a league perspective.

AND, he knows he has the upper hand. Sterling can't stay owner. All the sponsors have withdrawn and nobody will play for him after this season. Even if the owners went the other way, which they won't, Sterling will still have nothing. And everyone knows it at this point.

What WILL happen, eventually, is financial concessions will be made to Sterling to get to a settlement. He will cash out and get his fair value (maybe even more than he otherwise would have). And it will all happen before next season. Sterling might even contest or file suit in the immediate future, but it will only be to gain financial leverage in a settlement.

The script is already written, like it or not, and Silver had no option to deviate from that script, unless he wanted to do irreparable damage to the NBA.
Hey D2. What's up man? I clearly see your side of this. I see the other side of the coin. But, with all due respect... I think it's a shame that Sterling should lose ownership over this. What's even more humorous... is that Sterling pays all of these people... PA announcer... players... and other people... and we make banners and escalate this to "WE ARE ONE" all over the arena. It's rather humorous to me. What a slap in the face to Sterling. I've owned the team for 20+ years... and one day because I said something racist... everyone turns on me??? Even the PA Announcer? I'm not saying that it was RIGHT FOR HIM to say those things. I'm just saying... this isn't a HATE CRIME. He wasn't out to hurt anyone. You force me out of my 650+ million empire because I said something racist? GTFO of here. I wouldn't go down without swinging away. I would love to see Sterling push this... and push it more... and keep pushing. You know why? Because it clearly shows blacks have always been sensitive with race... and they won't let the HATE fade. Sticks and stones may break my bones... but words will never hurt me. We were taught this when we were 5 years old. It's the truth. Words don't matter. Actions when someone gets in your face and threatens you... is a different story. Sterling never threatened anyone.

I clearly see your point about the business side of the NBA. Hence the 5 Game 7's in the first round. Vegas's dream came true in the first round. If that's what that Jew commish wants to do??? So be it. Clearly it's all business. Refs calling fouls whenever they desire. Hasn't been called fair. It's been called "for business." Whatever it takes to get more revenue for said owners... and go to game 7's within reason. The NBA got the perfect match ups for Round 2. You couldn't ask for a better start of the playoffs for all $$$$$$$$ goers world wide.

As for myself being a racist... I'm not. I've had blacks call me cracker to my face "jokingly" and I never get offended. I've owned businesses next to welfare apartment complexes 90% black... and they walked to my businesses constantly... and I never called them the N word or anything like that. Have I had black people open my business door and say uneducated remarks? Absolutely. But I always kept things civil. It goes like this... there are white people who are rednecks... who think they know everything and are uneducated and say stupid shi#$. There are uneducated black thugs... who don't know any better. There are educated black people who know what they are talking about... and there are educated whites who know what they are talking about. I'm just sick and tired of the media... Jesse Jackson and all these other fools keeping the racist views alive. The hate comes from within.... I have no hate. When I played high school football 40% of the team was black. They were my brothers. They got my back and I have theirs. All of my black teammates are on my facebook page today... and I'm proud to be their friend. Sterling got the short end of the stick on this one... and I'm pissed off about it.

When it comes down to it... this waiting period... all the owners will look at themselves in the mirror one morning from now til then... and they will say to themselves... "What if I was in Sterling's shoes? Would I want someone to vote me out?" Owners are like family... it's going to be hard to get 2/3 of the vote to get Sterling out. Adam Silver thinks this is a game set match??? Every opinion on TNT scrolling at the bottom of the page was from a black person. Not one white person said.. wow!! Gee I'm thrilled about this! Mark Cuban said it perfectly... it's a "slippery slope." That's all he kept saying... because no owner really wants to force Sterling out.
