This is insane. 24 year old guy gets sentenced to 13 years in prison. He is out on bail and appeals. He loses appeal but due to a clerical error they never come pick him up as scheduled . THIRTEEN years go by and the corrections department prepares to release him and realizes they never picked him up in the first place!!!!!!
Guy went totally straight, owns a home, a business, and has a wife and four kids. SWAT team comes to his house and takes him away. This was nine months ago he has been locked up since and is schedule for release in 2026!!!

Should he get a break? I say yes but not completely.

Why no prison? Yes he should serve time

Prison sentences are for punishment, not rehabiltation

Did he commit armed robbery? Yes. Does he adopt homeless handicapped kittens? Irrelevant

If he isn't a danger to society these days, why put him in a cell that could be occupied by someone who STILL HAS criminality in their life.

          Prisons are overcrowded

This guy not going in can free up a spot

Unfortunately no matter how well someone did during those 13-14 years and became a better person... by law he must serve his sentence. I know it sucks.... but this isn't the first time this has happened to someone before.

Funny that he's such a good guy and didn't turn himself in after his sentencing. Guy was obviously just hoping to stay in the cracks. He'll serve 4 or 5 years. If it was the other way around and they left him in jail too long due to a clerical error, he'd be suing everyone and he'd win.

                    I have a great idea

You've heard of crop rotation? How about con rotation. 4 to a formerly 2 man cell. 12 hrs out doing work or walking around the yard, 12 hrs in the cell. Change ur own sheets every day. Pain in the ass? Don't go to prison

He should do some time but needs to get credit for some of the sentence.

He lived every day wondering if it was the day they would come and get him.

good point , watching over your shoulder every day would be total shit and maybe should be viewed as part punishment , they could have halved his original sentence maybe ?

I agree with the guys that say he should do some time, serious time, but not the entire 13 years. Maybe half his sentence and he should be grateful due to a clerical error he got to start a family and build a life that will be waiting when he gets out.

Truth is he is probably screwed because the legal precedent they would set by changing length of his incarceration could cause a real cluster F@@k . Crazy story though

And now 4 kids growing up with no father to help raise them isn't going to be beneficial to them or society.

It sucks because of his family and he doesn't look like much of a threat to society now...just like many who go to prison then matured and wouldn't be a threat anymore but will rot the rest of their life in there over a mistake. Still, you can't just drop it all and set this precedent. Everyone else had to do their time, he lucked out but tough to just let him free.

Yeah, he can always be grateful for the time he got free. Built a nice life and family while still young that would have been improbable had he did his time then got out.

I was going to post the same thing about his family life. Coming out at 37 after 13 years attaining a good wife, 4 kids, your own home and own business is 50 times harder then as a 24 year old starting out. It sucks he has to do time now because he obviously learned his lesson, but he still got lucky.

The crazy part is 13 years in jail he may come out as a bad guy again. Hard time for a decade has done that to many people. This story is interesting on a lot of levels

A 33-year-old Knoxville, Tenn. man with 30 children appeared in court this week to ask the state for child-support help, Memphis news station WREG reported Wednesday.
Desmond Hatchett has fathered 30 children -- which is believed to be the record in Knox county, according to the Los Angeles Times -- with 11 different women. His youngest children are toddlers and his oldest is 14.
Hatchett reportedly asked the court to give him a break on his payments, claiming that he's struggling to make ends meet with his minimum-wage job. Currently, the state requires him to divide 50 percent of his earnings among the 11 women, some of whom receive as little as $1.49 a month, WREG reports.
How did Hatchett come to father so many children? “I had four kids in the same year. Twice," he told Volunteer TV in 2009. He also told a local news station that year that he was "done" having kids (he had only 21 at the time).
