This obviously is a political power struggle. The elected leader tried to enforce sharia law after being elected and without actually being honest about his intentions when he was running for office. The people protested and things escalated.

The power hungry will always take advantage of an unstable situation, that's all that's happening here - certain terrorist factions are taking advantage in the hopes of gaining a foothold in yet another country. This is a civil war and terrible things happen, the same things that happened in civil wars in Europe and in America.

For those that cite the first amendment and human rights, surely it is everyone's right to follow which ever religion (s)he chooses. It is not right, however, when that religion brings violence and hatred with it. Egypt will be unlikely to receive support from the USA or UN as, even though there are human rights atrocities occurring, there is no value there (such as oil) and where there is no profit, there is no help.

There was a vid floating around a few years back of Saddam doing this same kind of shit. They kept showing the same guy getting thrown off of a building on CNN and some guy at the back of the tavern where we were eating lunch at said "Jesus Christ, how many God damn times are they going to throw that guy off of that building?"
