He doesn't have a gun those people are not dead.

GOP pricks are all about violence and killing.

Any mention of gun control and they start the name calling.

Can't wait for Obama to take all the guns away.

However guns don't have emotions, guns don't have irrational thoughts and r simply the vehicles that some ppl use to express their moments of irrationality and ill-thought emotional outbursts.

Problem is their actions become needlessly fatal when the situation could have been resolved via a different medium. That feeling of absolute empowerment is too intoxicating and too much of a responsibility to place on ppl where dense populations exist imo.

And as for ur legislation, at least its a step toward doing something that keeps the balance between individuals freedom and realisation that as times change laws need to adapt to those changes.
        Reasonable thoughts.

Only Legislation that will have any meaningful effect is something that aims at ammunition.

I will take you to ANY MLK blvd in ANY city in America you choose. I will drop you off on one end and all you have to do is WALK from one end to the other. I will pick you up on the other side(if you make it) and we will have a discussion about your liberal ideals.

~15.000 people are killed with guns every year in the USA.

~15.000 people kill themselves with guns every year. (Personally I don't care too much about them, you wanna die, ok do it. Although I am damn sure that a lot of them wouldn't have done it without having a weapon at home. Much easier to pull the trigger than to cut your throat, jump of a bridge etc. You have to think about it and can't act in a second after you thought of it.)

About 5.7 of 100.000 people die every year as a result of a crime in the USA.
Only about 1.1 of 100.000 people die every year as a result of a crime in the OPEC states.

Statistics show: The higher the rate of criminality in a state of the USA -> the higher the number of people owning a gun.
We don't know for sure what's the reason: Are there more people owning a gun because of the high rate of crime, OR is there a high rate of crime because there is a high rate of people owning a gun.

1990 was a year of relatively low crime rate, 78% of the citizens wanted stricter gun laws. 2008 was a year of high crime rate, 54% were against stricter gun laws. It's a funny fact, that is at the same time logic and totally irrational. I can understand both ways of thinking.

And you guys shouldn't get me wrong here: I myself LOVE guns! I'm from Germany and hell yeah, I would fcking love to buy a gun if it was allowed. I can handle them because of my time in the army, I love to shoot them, I love the simple idiotic feeling of HAVING one.
BUT: I know for fact, that every stupid fcking crackhead around here would do the same thing, buy a gun. Even more: Most of the "good" people wouldn't buy one, but every stupid wannabe G in the Ghetto would have at least one.
And again, don't get me wrong:
If I seriously and for fact want to commit a crime with a gun, there are ways of getting one. But these ways are harder than just going into a store and buy one. And the risk that I would get caught with it would be high, too.
Of course a fcking psycho like Anders Breivik was able to get guns and to build bombs. But the dude that runs around a corner trying to steal an old ladys bag, doesn't have one. The dudes driving around with a sudden idea of robbing a gas station, don't have one. My neighbour who get's angry when I tell him to not park his car in front of my driveway, isn't able to get inside and kill me 5 seconds later with his gun. The dude running around in the cinema in Aurora would very possible not have owned a gun. The paranoid mentally ill person who shot Gabrielle Giffords wouldn't have had a gun. Can you kill people with a knife? Yes. Is it a lot easier with a gun? Yes.

I love my freedom. Or at least the last bit that I/we still have. I get angry about a lot of things in my country that are taking a bit of my personal freedom away (gambling laws f.e.).
But I am willing to give up a little bit of freedom for something I consider a good idea.
One short example: A few years ago a railroad company decided that it is not allowed to consume alcohol in there trains any more. At first I was fcking pissed off. Why the hell should a nice guy like me not be allowed to drink a beer when coming from a soccer match with some friends for example? But after a few months, I realized something: This decision wasn't against guys like me. It was against drunken idiots with the intelligence level of a piece of toast, terrorizing other passengers when drunk, pissing in the train, getting violent against others, damaging the train, etc.
This was one example, where I was absolutely ok with it in the end, because I could see with my own eyes that something changed. It is perfectly cool to ride with trains from this special company (Metronom) on a saturday evening, and it can be a fcking nightmare to ride on trains from other companies (f.e. Deutsche Bahn) that don't have this no alcohol policy. It's cool in the end.

On Monday, the Supreme Court upheld a challenge to Chicago's 28-year-old handgun ban, which ultimately signals the end of the ban on handguns in Chicago and Oak Park. As gun rights were extended throughout the country by SCOTUS, Chicago was recovering from another violent weekend that left at least 29 shot and three dead.
Even with the gun ban in place, shootings in Chicago have been rampant. Last weekend, at least 52 were shot and ten killed in just three days, and this weekend the gunfire continued. According to CBS, shots were fired into a group of about 30 people Sunday night--likely a crowd gathering in Uptown after the Gay Pride Parade. Two men were wounded in the incident, at least one suffered serious injuries.
CBS reports that another rash of shootings occurred between 10:45 p.m. Saturday and 4 a.m. Sunday, where at least 13 people were shot and one person was killed. Most of the incidents took place on the Northwest and Southwest sides.
From midnight to 6 a.m. on Saturday, another 13 people were shot--two fatally, the station reports.
When the Supreme Court ruled Monday (read the entire decision here), they did take these violent weekends into account. From the Supreme Court decision:

Chicago Police Department statistics, we are told, reveal that the City's handgun murder rate has actually increased since the ban was enacted and that Chicago residents now face one of the highest murder rates in the country and rates of other violent crimes that exceed the average in comparable cities.
Monday's decision did not explicitly strike down the Chicago area laws, ordering a federal appeals court to reconsider its ruling. But it left little doubt that they would eventually fall.
The court did, however, explain that the decision does allow states to continue regulating handgun use, writing that the decision "limits (but by no means eliminates) their ability to devise solutions to social problems that suit local needs and values."
Mayor Daley, expecting the Supreme Court to rule the way it did today, told the Associated Press last week that he had no intention of going down without a fight.
"We're not going to roll over," Daley told the AP, adding that he plans to put in place all sorts of restrictions to make it tougher to buy guns and easier for police to know who has them.
"Just like they did in Washington, D.C., the city of Chicago is going to try to make it as difficult and discouraging as humanly possible to keep people from having guns in their homes for personal protection," Dave Workman, spokesman for the Bellevue, Washington-based Second Amendment Foundation said.
Chicago Reader reporter Mick Dumke wrote Monday that Daley and his allies in the City Council could "act as soon as this Wednesday with legislation designed to curtail handgun access, potentially including regulations on licensing and sales as well as training requirements."
Read about the man who challenged the legality of the city's handgun ban, Otis McDonald, here.
