If you have some type of online account with a bookie, it sounds a lot more reasonable that you would say 'here, let me enter in these 2 fake bets to impress some online people and then you can take them off after' than 'Hey, I'm going to bet 50K that I wouldn't have bet otherwise just to get some guy to not post on a forum until Christmas.'

Both situations seem pretty crazy, but the first one seems far less crazy.
