which pitchers in the majors get the worst run support?
Between watching the phillies and giants now, and pirates earlier and cubs yesterday..... gotta feel bad for some of these pitchers.... ryan dempester and james mcdonald have both pitched well with bothing to show for it... believe the cubs have scored 1 run 0 runs and 2 runs in dempsters starts.... and mcdonald I believe the pirates haven't scored at all.. I think he lost his first start 1 0 to phillies.. next one 3 0 to giants and today. When he came out in the 5th they were losing 1 0... so what pitcher has it the worst? Maybe someone from oak or seattle?

      Historically.. Johan Santana

Recently... Jared Weaver. Last year he pitch 9 scoreless innings @Minnesota, and Angels still lost 1-0 in ten innings.

        In 2011 it was Lincecum:

Lincecum finished the 2011 season 13–14, despite a top-tier ERA of 2.74 (4th in the NL) and a stellar second half ERA of 2.31. Lincecum's win-loss record was largely due to low run support, receiving the worst run support in all of Major League Baseball. Lincecum received 0 runs of support in 10 of his outings and 2 runs or fewer in 21 of them, becoming one of just 6 pitchers in modern major league history to have at least 200 strikeouts, an ERA of below 2.75, and a losing record.

Mostly aces because offense facing another ace. Common sense.

surprised at how many guys are talking out of their asses..

lincecum had the worst last year with a run support average of 3.82 runs a game. doug fister, paul maholm, jered weaver, and king felix rounded out the top 5.
just for trivia's sake derek holland received the most support last year, 9.23 runs a game. 3 texas pitchers in the top 10 of run support.
if i remember correctly andrew miller had a ridiculous run support average of 15 or so but only pitched a handful of games.

so far this year mark buehrle has had the worst, 0.44 runs a game in average

                            Jeremy Guthrie wins

Consider this: In his 20 losses since the start of 2010, the Orioles have scored 24 runs while he was in the game. That’s 1.2 runs per game.

Cliff Lee pitched 10 shutout innings last night against San Fran and they wound up lost the game 1-0.

Am avoiding the Phillies until they get that horrendous offense straightened out.

As a Giants fan, it seems like all our pitchers received hardly any run support last year. Timmy had it pretty bad as the stats show, and Matty Cain and MadBum also had a few losses thanks to shocking offensive performances. I also seem to remember Ryan Vogelsong going through an 0-5 stretch during August despite having a 2.50ish ERA over those games and pitching at least 7 innings in all of them. I think he received something like a total 3 runs of support over those 5 starts.

However, this season Timmy seems to be getting an infinite amount of run support, now the problem is that the opposing batters are swinging him out of the ballpark pretty much as and when they wish!

White Sox pitching has been better than I thought it would be, but they get little help from their offense.

Cliff lee has gotten ZERO runs of support through 3 starts this season... That is an amazing stat. Even still, id be willing to bet that cole hamels is top 3 on this list, if not #1.

Statistically Cole Hamels has had some of the worst run support over the last three years on what was otherwise a very strong offense.
