Remember when a boxing heavyweight champ (james toney) fought an mma fighter who didn't even have a title (Randy Couture). How did that go? That was quite the exhibition for young fighters. Who wouldn't want to box after that?

Name some boxers who have suffered serious long term damage in the past 10 years.

You can't compare injuries over a 10 year span to 30 years of boxing and there are also probably 20X as many boxers in the world as there are UFC fighters so obviously the numbers will appear inflated for boxing. You would need to compare amount of injuries to amount of participating athletes in order to obtain an average from each sport.

How many men have died boxing: ONE THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED AND SIXTY FIVE. that's right. 1,465 deaths attributed to boxing. http://ejmas.com/jcs/jcsart_svinth_a_0700.htm

And you're going to argue that MMA is more dangerous? wow.

1,465. The number of men who have died due to boxing. http://ejmas.com/jcs/jcsart_svinth_a_0700.htm

give me some of this data you're talking about to prove that mma is more dangerous. anything. just something that you can come up with to save yourself embarrassment. Just make something up at least. Or admit you're wrong. again.

    Tree,

Not a single one of those articles sites any significant statistical arguments supporting the decline of the sport. I could easily find one article for each that you presented written by an author with a different view saying that MMA is going to fade away or that boxing is in its prime. Some articles suggest that Iphone is the greatest phone and others suggest that Android is better.

This is not what I asked for I asked for statistics proving that boxing is on the decline and MMA taking over.

That is more boxers than existing MMA fighters did you take at least intro to algebra classes? or have you not made it to that point yet?

How many boxers (amateur and pro) have fought in that time frame? Let this = X and Y= 1,465

    Now divide Y by X

Y/X= Average death attributed to boxing through X amount of fighters

Now repeat the process for the MMA and this will allow us to compare averages.

And how many joe blows have died fighting MMA across the world in the last year?

How many Boxers did not die in the last year?

How many MMA fighters did not die in the last year?

121 deaths out of 100,000 boxers worldwide= .0121% chance of death per fighter
12 deaths out of 10,000 MMA fighters= 0.012% chance of death per fighter

Do you understand the importance of the amount of fighters in each sport here and how it impacts the toll of deaths/injuries per sport?

Why do MMA fanboys always want to say boxing is fading when there is room for both? UFC President Dana White got his start in boxing and loves boxing. Boxing will always be one of the great sports in America because its history is deeper and richer than any sport. Both sports have their problems but to say either is dying is stupid.

I really don't know, they are completely different sports and as you put it there is easily room for both. As a fan of MMA and a person who respects boxing, it sure doesn't make any sense to me.

Pretty sure bananas are what is killing everyone. In fact it's a proven fact that 100% of people that have eaten a banana have either died or will die at some point. Learn to read beyond the conclusion and correlate data, Tree.

not sure whats going on in here.. but i watched the Strikeforce event tonight... it was a great show.. Diaz really impressed tonight, he never has a boring fight....

and as far as boxing goes.. i grew up on boxing.. i grew up watching Julio Cesar Chavez and Tyson with my dad.. will always love boxing, but i have lost great amount of interest in it over the last few years.. especially seeing how boxing can't even deliver the one fight the entire world wants to see...

ok im not agreeing with anyone here but boxing is much more harmful to the brain than mma for 1 important reason: in boxing people who are knocked down are given the opportunity (10 second count) to stand back up. In mma, if you ever get knocked down to point where you would need 8 seconds to recover...the fight is over.

giving fighters the chance to stand back up only to be knocked down again kills a ridiculous amount of brain cells. this is a medical fact.

Boxing is dying man. I don't know how you can't see that. The funny thing is that it has nothing to do with MMA. Boxing was dying before MMA go so popular. In fact. The reason why MMA became so big is the fact that boxing is dying. Not the other way around.
