BetOnSports: wager cancellation policy drawing complaints
BetOnSports (SBR rating C+) wager cancellation policy drawing complaints.

BetonSports tells TheRX.com poster that it reserves the right to cancel wagers on odds that are about to change. Sportsbooks often subjectively label these types of wagers as "betting steam". The industry standard dictates that the only time it is acceptable for a sportsbook to cancel a wager is when the line posted is a gross error and is addressed before the event begins. This is commonly referred to as a ’Bad line’. Sportsbooks are entitled to deny service to players but confirmed wagers should not be susceptible to cancellation at the book’s discretion.
5/27/2006 1:21:33 PM Update: BetOnSports tells SBR that as of today, this policy will no longer exist and all confirmed wagers will be honored.

You've got to admit that BoS lead the industry in - ahem - revolutionary business practices. Each new rule to "improve the bottom line" is innovative to say the least.

And if you want a good laugh, read the RX threads about BoS...
some peeps will come and say the truth, basically thats its a shit book, and the mods will jump in to defend BoS - lol.
The Fag Zone is funny too...or ToW, poor newbies who read at those places first - they have to think its a good book.

What a shame that BetOnSports can buy these so called watchdog sites. Before BOS was in The RX's pocket, The RX had BetOnSports rated as a "No Pay" book and to stay away. Now they are promoting and defending this S-H-I-T book. Its shameful.

Sad, funny, and a little scary all at the same time.

As best I can tell, the “defenses” offered by the moderators over there are:

          1. It’s always the same people bashing BetOnSports in these threads.
          2. Shut up about it, because without their “sponsorship” we won’t have as much money to give you in contests, and for that matter might not even be able to keep the site itself afloat.
          3. You can’t judge them negatively based on dealings with their clerks, because clerks in general in this industry are uninformed and unreliable, and you can’t judge them negatively based on dealings with their supervisors, because supervisors in general in this industry have an antagonistic attitude toward customers and often lose their temper and say things they shouldn’t.
          4. It’s impressive how thick-skinned they are in standing up to all this bashing.
          5. If you’re one of the fraction of 1% of sportsbettors who knows about these forums AND are willing to come to us for help and end up owing us a favor AND are willing to give up your identity and account information to us so we and they will know who you are for the future AND preferably have kept the matter hush hush rather than posting about it, or at least are willing to come in after the fact and thank us and them for being such upstanding folks, then generally we can get them to compromise and not steal as much from you as they otherwise would have.

          Well, I’m convinced.

I can't argue with what TLD says. I'd only play minimal amounts there to be eligible to win contests ( like $5).

It's not just the RX though, that has accepted BOS.

Not a book I'll make more than a token bet with. When books start operating under many names, it's bad for the player, IMO.

Now they are what Platinum, or Latinum, or Krypyonite level or something ?

or maybe they pay in Latinum ?

Latinum was a rare silver-colored liquid metal that was used as currency by the Ferengi Alliance, the Cardassians, and many other worlds. For ease of transaction, latinum was usually suspended within bits of gold as a binding medium to produce gold-pressed latinum. (DS9: "Who Mourns for Morn?") Smuggling latinum was considered a crime by the Enolians. (ENT: "Canamar") Latinum was deeply ingrained in Ferengi culture, and was referenced in several of their Rules of Acquisition, with some...

I don't mean in any way, shape or form to "protect" or pump up Betonsports. I think we should objectively compare the company's behaviours to the only other company that fits the profile, sizewise...this being Sportingbet and its network of affiliate sites.

Despite the size of the operation Betonsports is ALWAYS responsive to the mediation of watchdog sites in a matter of hours. Sportingbet, on the other hand, makes everyone sweat to get an answer which usually comes in days, when it comes.

Betonsports closes an account and sends the entire balance to the players. Sportingbet and its network of affiliates normally refunds players their INITIAL DEPOSITS, confiscates winnings, and makes players and watchdogs sweat for weeks if not months to rectify the situation.

When an employee makes an obvious mistake or says something wrong, like in this case, the book's middle and upper management immediately intervenes to rectify the situation.

When an employee at sportingbet makes an obvious mistake or says something wrong the player has absolute certainty to receive an email confirming the mistake and closing with "management decision is final."

If a player requests a neteller payout at Betonsports he will receive it within 24 hours. No bullshit asked, no deposits to verify the account, no hassle.

If a player requests a neteller payout at any of the sportingbet's affiliates he has a 50% chance to have his account "audited" (read - 1 week delay), he will be paid within 72 hours and if his account is not "verified" he will get a check instead (obviously without being told of the change of mean of payment).

If a player bets steam he will be profiled at betonsports. If a player bets steam at any of the sportingbet affiliates he will have his account locked, his payout request put under audit and he will have a 50% chance of having to go thru the hoops cause he might receive his initial deposit back only.

Bill has been dealing with operations as we have and besides the number of disputes (uncomparable) in disfavor of sportingbet, the overall different approach of management of the two operations is significant in favor of betonsports.

Mind...every sportsbook is subject to making mistakes.

Most human mistakes escalate and require the intervention of watchdogs because parties collide at personal level and cooler heads shall intervene to address the issues and get them rectified.

Most don't even hit the wire, especially the onces concerning top rated sportsbooks, since they are solved and adressed in a matter of hours, like in betonsport's case.

This doesn't mean mistakes or disputes are swept under the rug. Its just a matter of common sense that leads the mediating party to address it with the sportsbook management in a fair and swift way.

The reversal that BOS has had at the rx has been incredible..You pay and get platinum statis and you are the best..before that both the site and BOS were leary of each others policies and constituency so there were problems..We know money talks, and thats the haymaker here..

Roberto's long diatribe basically says BetOnSports is not as bad as Sportingbet. BOS is a S-H-I-T book that has a habit of cancelling winning wagers. They have done it since day 1. They have to pay off so called watchdog sites to cover for them.

agree, Chuck ! Few of these places with over a dozen names, are any good. I'll take my action to my trusted places, only play SHIT books for contest eligibility or high bonus dollars... then leave.

“I think we should objectively compare the company's behaviours to the only other company that fits the profile, sizewise...this being Sportingbet and its network of affiliate sites.”

Why? What makes “size” the key factor? What about “located in the same country”? Or “in business the same number of years”? Or “same number of letters in its name”?

And then after you arbitrarily pick a factor that The BoS books share with the books you want to “objectively compare” them with, you proceed not to “objectively compare” them at all but instead to offer a lawyer’s brief highlighting whatever in the comparison you think puts BoS in a better light.

As if that’s not enough, you proceed to lie:

“If a player requests a neteller payout at any of the sportingbet's affiliates he has a 50% chance to have his account ‘audited’ (read - 1 week delay), he will be paid within 72 hours and if his account is not ‘verified’ he will get a check instead (obviously without being told of the change of mean of payment).”

Well, that’s true if by “50% chance” you mean “less than 1% chance.”

As Chuck says, it all boils down to an argument that BoS is less bad than Sportingbet. And worse yet, it’s a piss poor argument even for that irrelevant claim.
