It's looking like if Clijsters didn't beat Wozniaki both mens and women's semifinals in the Aussie Open would have consisted of the top 4 seeds in each. I don't bet tennis. I was just wondering, does this type of thing happen often?
Wow, is tennis really this predictable?

#9I don't remember but before this round began the odds were good. Something like -170 or something for all 4 to make it. At the start of the tourney I have no idea.
You'd get better odds if you had parlayed all four though to just win their matches. Fed was -300 to -350. Nadal was -370 to -390. Djokovic was -870 to -1100+ and Murray was I don't remember -1100+. Parlay all four and it'd be better than -170. So that prop is totally useless unless you bet it at the start of the tourney right?Comment -

Also, until this year Murray never made semis on clay, and Nadal in his early years didn't get anywhere on hard court (didn't make a semi until 2008).
Men's side.....
USO 2011: 4/4
Wim 2011: 3/4 (Federer failed, Tsonga beat him in qfs)
Fre 2011: 4/4 (first time Murray made sfs there)
Aus 2011: 3/4 (Nadal failed, Ferrer beat him in qfs)
USO 2010: 3/4 (Murray failed, beaten in R3 or R4)
Wim 2010: 3/4 (Federer failed, Berdych beat him in qfs)
Fre 2010: 1/4 (only Nadal made it)
Aus 2010: 2/4 (Fed and Murray made it)
USO 2009: 3/4 (Murray failed)
Wim 2009: 2/4 (Fed and Murray made it. Nadal missed the tournament tho)
Fre 2009: 1/4 (only Fed)
Aus 2009: 2/4 (only Fed/Nadal)
USO 2008: 3/4 (Ferrer failed, Murray made first semi)
Wim 2008: 2/4
Fre 2008: 3/4
Aus 2008: 3/4
USO 2007: 3/4 (Nadal failed)
Wim 2007: 3/4 (Roddick failed)
Fre 2007: 3/4 (Roddick failed)
Aus 2007: 1/4 (only Fed)
USO 2006: 1/4 (only Fed)
Wim 2006: 2/4 (Fed/Nadal)
Fre 2006: 4/4 (Fed/Nadal/Nalbandian/Ljubicic)
Aus 2006: 2/4
USO 2005: 1/4 (only Fed)
Wim 2005: 3/4 (Nadal failed)
Fre 2005: 1/4 (only Fed)
Aus 2005: 4/4 (Fed, Roddick, Hewitt, Safin)
USO 2004: 1/4 (only Fed)
Wim 2004: 2/4
Fre 2004: 1/4 (only Coria)
Aus 2004: 3/4Comment -

#12One of the better wagers over the last two years @ Slams has been Murray to Win His Quarter. He's made the semis in 7 of the last 9. Remarkably consistent making the semis and then of course getting stomped somewhere after that. Seems that much of this is do to the guys who make his draw again and again like Tsonga, etc. who CAN win everything or lose to someone like Nishikori and give Murray a much easier road. He's had some tough QF matches, but over the last year he's beaten Isner, Felciano Lopez and Dolgpolov to get to semis. Good players, but not nearly as tough as some he could have faced.
More often than not you can get the odds on him to win his quarter at below -200 also which is by far the best of the Big Four.Comment -

#17WTA is probably the least predictable sport out there. Just because you see Seeds 1, 2 and 3 in the semis doesn't mean that it was a predictable tournament. Look at the heavy favorites who choked here and choke each and every week in WTA. If you think it's easy to win with "predictable" women's tennis ... try betting favorites a lot. The men aren't that predictable outside of Grand Slams and outside of the Big Four. Again look back at this tournament ... seeds 5-10, only two made the QFs. Women's seeds 5-10, you had losers in round 1, round 1 and round 3. Week-to-week, motivation is a factor for all these guys/girls and mental strength especially for the women is lacking.Comment -

#20I bet tennis for the first time this week. Took Nadal at -300something, and it was a fuggin nightmare. Tennis is soooo much better when you're not laying -300ish on a busted player playing on his worst surface.
Still, better than playing hockey favorites.
But, it was my fault, because I fuggin took a -300 anything - which might be full retard.Comment -
