""'Rounders 2' is something that we talk about because whenever we see John Cusack, whenever we see Lil Kim, who we're friends with, we talk about doing it. We've kept in touch with ['Rounders' director] John Dahl," Levien said. "We have this idea that we really want to pick these characters up down the road. So it is something we plan to do, we just don't have it on the calendar yet."
Koppelman agrees, but he was also careful to point out that a sequel won't be made simply for the sake of it. "We've made promises to a lot of people though that we won't do it if we can't find a way for it not to suck," he said. "Bill Simmons, the sports guy, is a huge 'Rounders' fan and he's said that he will publicly flog us if we do it in a way that will suck."
"Rounders" is a classic and it seems like most everyone is keen on seeing a sequel happen. Even the stars. MTV's Josh Horowitz spoke to Cusack recently and, again, the subject of "Rounders 2" came up. Cusack hadn't heard anything concrete, but he's definitely still interested.
"Yeah, you know, Harvey Weinstein came up and said to me like, 'You know, I think we should… we’re thinking [about getting the sequel going].' And I said, 'Get Brian and David to write it, and I’m there. For sure.'"
"I think the idea of completely replacing the cast with more modern actors who are "Hot Now" If you will, is great" said Cusack. "Eddie Murphy taking over for Malkovich as the villain is a genious move, it will appeal to families more - gambling doesn't always have to be dark and shady. It will be rated G and it will be very family oriented. We kicked around the idea of animating the whole movie but didn't want to lose the serious poker players."
The new story takes place in suburbia Los Angeles and the fellow players will be predominantly the cast of MTV's hit series "The Hills". "We want to rush it into production ASAP just like my albums - I mean sure quality is important sometimes but you gotta give 'em what they want and you have to strike while the iron is hot!"
The soundtrack will be predominantly Lil Kim, Lady Gaga, and Justin Bieber, who plays the role of Eddie Murphy's bodyguard in the film. "The soundtrack will be off the hook is all I can say" said Bieber.
Expect a release in the 1st quarter of 2011."
Wow I was looking so forward to this before. This is disappointing, I will see it regardless though personally.
