No incentive to bust up your knees after getting a huge signing bonus.
I am a pretty frugile person that gets alot of bang for his buck and if I got about 6 million in signing bonuses and my first year salary along with endorsements I would go through the motions for a year and get cut.

I would still have perfect knees and joints at age 23,I don't have to put up with all the jerk attitudes in sports and I can live happily ever after in some plush home on a northern secluded lake and take vacations every month and have alot of neat toys. After a year no one would know me and I could walk down any street in america without someone hassling me.

There just would be no incentive for a sane person not to do what I would do.The only problem is that 7 or 8 mill to your average ball player gets pissed down the toilet paying for Humvee's,farari's,4 illegitimate kids,an entourage posse,a box of gold earings and other bling bling.

I can just picture the scene tomorrow when the draft takes place. Some guy like Vince Young who has an IQ of 85 who was going for a worthless fluff, if a tree falls in the woods and there was no one there to hear it does it still make a noise philosophy degree will have his mom crying that he needs to finish his degree and get an Education!!!!!!!!

If Vince had no athletic talent he wouldn't have even been in college and if he did get a fluff degree only some makework government program would have hired him.The mothers all think their kids like this are geniuses wasting their talent on making 100 million playing ball and instead could be solving the world problems with their degrees and education.

I can see your point about taking the money and splitting and having a nice, healthy life.

When we talk about the big money available to top athletes, it becomes surreal. Once you've got 6 million bucks, how much difference can more money make? You can break your back and try to make 50 million over your career. It sounds like a lot more money but how much difference does it make to your lifestyle really?

    If you're set, you're set.

Is it really worth risking your health?

But of course the wild card is competetiveness. A lot of guys have passion for their game and want to make their mark. I can understand that.

The other wildcard is fame. I'm with you, I think fame must be the most annoying thing in the world. But for some people, fame is a goal just for its own sake - even if money weren't involved.

I don't understand it but it is an undeniable fact.

No 7-figure signing bonus, no 7-figure salary and no endorsements, and I still need at least one knee replacement surgery right now
