    Instant Replay in Baseball?
Did anyone see that Mets game yesterday, and the play at the plate where the catcher dropped the ball but the ump was out of position and called him out? He was clearly safe but the ump missed the call and called him out. Should there be an instant replay in baseball?

I don't see the problem with it myself. Baseball is such a relatively slow game that having a quick replay of any dubious call would hardly detract from the pace of the game. Replays have worked in cricket and rugby for years - I don't see any reason why they wouldn't work in baseball.

Didn't see the highlights on that one, Dan. But I'm not a proponent of instant replay in baseball. Just get the call right in the first place, or ask for help on that one if the umpire is out of position. I get help all the time from the other umpire in the games I work, not too proud to admit being out of position or the simple fact that sometimes you just don't have the best angle.

MLB will not even show replays of close plays to the fans at the ball park on the jumbo tron TV. Its insulting, its downright commie! I cant believe they would NOT show replays to fans in China or CUba and yet here in the US of fvcking A we the fans can not be shown a replay when we are at the park because we might riot or sommething.

i remember ole bud selig going on record saying. "they would never use instant replay". that statement was made by that puppet selig , after that botched homerun call the umps made in FL. the umps used the tv footage to reverse the call.

I did see that play from the Mets game but long before that, I was in favor of using instant replay in baseball for just about anything besides balls and strikes. There would have to be limits - perhaps like the NFL where coaches get a certain number of challenges - but I like the concept.

I think they should definitely have instant replay. Especially for throwouts
at the plate. Every other major sport has it? Right?

Yes, but limit it to homeplate calls. Where the umpire is always obstructed by the catcher.

And maybe the foul pole , to determine close calls for homeruns or foul balls.

There arent many calls that need reviewed, so I dont think Instant Replay would make the games any longer.

For close plays like that and fair/foul balls yes. For balls and strikes, no.
